Family Feud: USC's spring camp is coming to a close | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3758

USC's spring is winding down. The Trojans only have two practices remaining and have already had their "spring showcase." That showcase was essentially just a televised practice instead of an actual spring game, which was not feasible because of the Coliseum's renovations and the team's major depth issues at particular positions. Keely Eure and Shotgun Spratling return with the latest edition of the Family Feud Podcast to discuss what to take away from the "spring showcase" and the coaches' assessment of that "spring showcase." In the Stock Up/Stock Down segment, Keely and Shotgun both are quick to talk about the one-handed interception by defensive lineman Drake Jackson that stole the show(case). Jackson also had a sack and continues to standout even amongst a cadre of quality defensive linemen, which Shotgun also incorporates into his Stock Up segment. Shotgun's answers surprisingly follow closely to Keely's Stock Up list from last week as he includes the work of underclassmen John Jackson III and Markese Stepp. Keely's risers include more veterans than youngsters as she highlights the adaptability of the offense being able to still compete despite missing its top three offensive tackles as well as the work that redshirt senior cornerback Dominic Davis has been putting in. While discussing the cornerbacks, Shotgun goes into his Stock Down list to point out that he has yet to see a cornerback solidify himself as a starter during the spring. He also has middle linebacker John Houston Jr. trending down as he's been working with the second team more and more the last week while Jordan Iosefa has been playing alongside Palaie Gaoteote IV. On Keely's list are USC's inconsistent philosophies and having the "spring showcase" not be the end of the spring camp. She also raises her concerns about a defense that isn't being talked about frequently. Shotgun debates whether that is just a product of a new offense versus the same defense with there just being more interest in what is new or if it's partly because it's hard to get a full read on the defense with so many positional contender MIA this spring. The quarterbacks take over the second half of the podcast. In the 'Heard it on the Sidelines' segment, the USCfootball.com duo dissect offensive coordinator Graham Harrell's comments about all four quarterbacks and where he sees them at this spring. They look at the duality of Harrell's breakdown on the positive and negatives for Jack Sears, Matt Fink, Kedon Slovis and JT Daniels. And is reading into it too much to look at Harrell's order of delivery of each quarterback? The question is posed whether any of the quarterbacks has actually stood out this spring during the 'Agree/Disagree' portion of the show and when the Feudsters answer your questions, they also look at the possibility of transfers from the quarterback group following the eventual naming of a starter. The Family Feud Podcast also answers listener-submitted questions about running backs, an alternate theory on Lynn Swann bringing back Clay Helton and a ranking of the new coaches. We are looking to feature your question on an upcoming episode.  Family Feud Podcast: Spring in full swing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4723

A week and a half remains of USC's spring football practices. The Trojans have installed a version of the Air Raid offense and picked up the pace of practice under new offensive coordinator Graham Harrell. So what has been discovered through the first two-thirds of USC's spring camp? And what should be focused on during the final five practices in April? Keely Eure and Shotgun Spratling return with the latest edition of the Family Feud Podcast to discuss where the Trojans stand after 10 spring practices and how far along the offense is under Harrell. The Feudsters return to their in-season format as they survey the good and the bad from the first three weeks of practice. In the return of the Stock Up/Stock Down segment, Keely and Shotgun both give praise to the quickly-progressing offense with Shotgun focusing on the offensive synchronicity. They also remain high on some early-enrollee freshmen that have already been able to make a quick impression despite only being on campus for a couple of months. While Shotgun also highlights some players that have made positive gains as they return from injury, Keely admits that the new coaching staff members have been better than she anticipated from Harrell's offense to the fiery ways of running backs coach Mike Jinks and the hands-on approach of defensive backs coach Greg Burns. As they discuss the coaching staff, the USCfootball.com duo note that USC's coaches have been actively attacking some of the issues the Trojans consistently had last season. Keely once again fails to try to incorporate a Stock Neutral as Shotgun argues that what she describes is a Stock Unchanged. Stock Down is scattered around the team as Shotgun looks at the ball placement of Jack Sears and what he deems to be a "weird" usage of a stockpile of linebackers. The Trojans' lack of depth is discussed as is the significant drop off from the first team to the second team on the offensive line -- an element that has affected the quarterback play based on which grouping each quarterback is paired with on a given day. In the 'Heard it on the Sidelines' segment, Shotgun looks at how USC's offensive installation plan has been described while Keely notes a couple of defensive players being boisterous for two different reasons. The USCfootball.com duo talk about how much the Trojans are currently being graded on a curve this spring, whether there is really a quarterback competition and discuss a couple of changes that have taken place this spring during the 'Agree/Disagree' portion of the show. The Family Feud Podcast then answers listener-submitted questions about surprise contributors, favoritism, offensive line play and more. We are looking to feature your question on an upcoming episode.  Family Feud: First impressions of USC's spring camp | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2430

A tumultuous offseason finally came to a partial close with USC football opening its spring camp on Tuesday. The Trojans got back to the field and we got our first look at a number of new faces -- both Class of 2019 members that graduated early and enrolled at USC in January and members of the coaching staff that are joining the team or switching duties on the staff. Shotgun Spratling and Keely Eure return to talk about the first impressions that the new faces and the new directives initiated by head coach Clay Helton made. Except, much like USC last year, this podcast features a role reversal. The Trojans aren't used to going 5-7\. Keely and Shotgun aren't used to exchanging roles, but they took a minor step into the team's shoes, going out of their comfort zone and being challenged with a different experience. Shotgun was unable to attend the first practice, so he fills in the hosting role while Keely takes over as the analyst. Before they get into what was seen on the first day of spring camp, Keely and Shotgun have to first discuss the players that were not in attendance on the first day, including the mounting list of transfers that have left the program with some familiar faces that were expected to have a significant role on the team this season. Keely talks about how different the short-handed wide receiver and cornerback groups looked with only a select number of scholarship players available on the first day. The biggest drama of the offseason centered around USC's offensive coordinator position where Tee Martin had his playcalling duties taken away and then eventually his job as well. He was replaced temporarily by Kliff Kingsbury before the Trojans settled on Graham Harrell when Kingsbury left to be the Arizona Cardinals head coach. And the biggest change of the first spring practice came from the new offensive coordinator. Harrell left the practice field for a good portion of practice to take in things from above at Dedeaux Field next door to Howard Jones Field. Keely talks about how different the timing of that move and the dueling duo discusses the impact of this move and what it could mean for the offense going forward. Kelly gives her observations and analysis of other differences in the practice. Clay Helton was less involved in the offensive playcalling, but how was his new role as a manager watching over all the position groups and bouncing in between different drills and position groups. But did it seem like a different practice? She also discusses what she saw of the new coaching staff members, including a closer look at new defensive backs coach Greg Burns, and points out a couple of players that stood out in the helmets-only first practice. We're looking to feature your question on an upcoming episode also. Send your Stock Up/Stock Down contenders for us debate, provide us with an Agree/Disagree statement for us to argue over or simply send a question.
