 CS 469: RIP The Great Awakening, 2014-2020 pt 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:12:28

On today's episode, Teen (Escape From Plan A, @mont_jiang on Twitter) and Chris (Escape from Plan A, @JesuInToast) join Trevor to discuss the life and death of "The Great Awokeness". The basic idea of this episode is that the economy was good for a while, so people had money to waste and also wanted to talk about a lot of hot-button issues involving marginalized groups thanks to events in the news that were kept in the forefront via social media and protests. Now money is tight and people are out of patience for a lot of these social issues, but many in academia, politics, and media didn't get the memo and are in for a rude awakening.  CS 454: Hollywood Shuffle preview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:17

Today Vida and Ken use the movie Hollywood Shuffle as a jumping-off point to discuss what it means to be Black in Hollywood. Hollywood Shuffle is a 1987 American satirical comedy film about the racial stereotypes of African Americans in film and television. The film tracks the attempts of Bobby Taylor to become a successful actor and the mental and external roadblocks he encounters, represented through a series of interspersed vignettes and fantasies. Produced, directed, and co-written by Robert Townsend, the film is semi-autobiographical, reflecting Townsend's experiences as a black actor when he was told he was not "black enough" for certain roles.  CS 452: Protection Politics pt 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:49

Today the West Coast Sharks, Vida, Mario and Ken, gather together to discuss the politics of protection. It took just one slap to shake up a national dialog that has as many arms as a consortium of octopi.  From what it means to protect Black women, the cult of personality and the religion of celebrity... It's so much to parse out it takes 3 great brains combined to even break the surface of the situation at hand.  Lucky for us, those 3 brains just happen to be guiding the conversation you hear today. DISCLAIMER: Due to issues with the recording platform used for this episode and a desire to get new content out as soon as possible Vida had to record her audio remotely.  There will be moments where she is hard to hear, or the audio will have background artifacts distorting the image.  We tried to remove as much as possible without removing the context of the conversation, but unfortunately, we were not able to remove it all. This is Part 1 of a two-part episode.
