Lunar Sea Spire

Summary: A weekly podcast discussing cartoons.

Podcasts:

 Episode 106: The Test | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 25:42

GC13 and Sophia discuss one of our two old episodes waiting to be talked about, and we promise it’s not something we planned behind your backs (since we did say it was a possibility last week). Beyond making us really want a ukulele showdown, this is an episode really showcasing what a great leader Steven can be. It also really shows off how much he and the Crystal Gems care about each other, always wanting what’s best for the other. There’s only one more old episode left. Then, it’s time to talk about the Steven Nuke! So, where do you stand on the whole even vs easier debate?

 Episode 105: Onion Gang | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:45

GC13 and Hunter discuss the last new episode of Steven Universe before the new break in the schedule, Onion Gang. So we can finally put Onion into context: he’s definitely not the only strange kid around, it’s just that he doesn’t get to meet up with his friends when it isn’t summer time. The episode is cute, and so is Onion’s gang of friends. Well, mostly. When they’re not egging Steven on to execute the winner of the bug race. Who knows what the deal with that was? Anyway, back to reviewing old episodes! There are two season one episodes left that don’t have podcast episodes, and a whole bunch of Steven Nuke episodes!

Episode 104: Last One Out of Beach City | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:27

GC13 and Hunter discuss Last One Out of Beach City (which may or may not be the stealth pilot for a new spinoff series, Pearl Versus the World). This episode was a lot to process. That could be the end of the description right there (so says our voice of reason), but our ultimate wingman is encouraging us to write more. The big thing everyone is talking about, of course, is Pearl’s new friend, the Mystery Girl. She’s certain to show up again in more episodes later in the series, but where Pearl’s relationship will go is an open question (though one people have certainly already answered in their fanart headcanons).

 Episode 103: Future Boy Zoltron | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:55

GC13, Sophia, and Hunter discuss Future Boy Zoltron (and try to put an end to the newest Internet war). Steven lived his dream, giving advice to everybody (though was somehow shielded from them learning his true identity), and might have a future running the arcade if he can keep from being banned from it. Of course Frowney managed to completely steal the show (even if he wasn’t Greg’s brother—sorry Hunter). What other antics could he and Smiley have gotten up to in their routine? Finally, we have a new spin-off series that needs to be made: I Love Steven. “Steven, you have some explaining to do!”

 Episode 102: Mindful Education | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:03

Sophia, GC13, and Hunter discuss Steven Universe’s latest strike in the Feels War: Mindful Education. Let’s get the most important thing out of the way first: Stevonnie is the best Yoshi, period. Also, the outfit that results when Connie is wearing her training garb is just great. (We may not be worried about that diamond that ends up on the outfit, but that can’t be accidental.) So it was a very emotional episode with a very healthy message. Steven’s kind of been going through a lot of stuff lately, with plenty for him to be anxious about. The appearance of his mother’s face in his list of anxieties? Not surprising, given how central she is to everything that’s going on with him. It’s still sad though.

 Episode 101: Buddy's Book | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:49

GC13, Sophia, and Hunter discuss Buddy’s Book (the first weekly episode we’ve had in a long time that wasn’t part of some special event). So, this episode had drama; it had adventure; it had lions! (And shushing!) We can’t know what the story behind the lions is yet, but it’s a pretty sure bet that we’ll learn at some point. Also, there is another mystery: where exactly is the Buddwick Public Library? It’s not in the main area of Beach City we’ve seen in the show, but it must be part of Beach City. Perhaps it’s near the movie theater… Now if only we could get some fanart of some jubilant Rubies carrying Jasper around and singing about how great she is…

Episode 100: Week four of the Summer Adventure | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:58

GC13 finishes out the Summer Adventure solo, discussing the last episodes: Beta, Earthlings, Back to the Moon, Bubbled, Kindergarten Kid, and Know Your Fusion. Oh yes, and plenty of discussion of Pink Diamond Theory (don’t believe what you’ve heard—it’s more true than ever now!). This week had some heavy stuff, but it had some fun stuff too. We’re into season four (or three), so watch out for the Richingtons! (We’re going to keep mentioning this until it happens, because it needs to happen so very much.) Now that the Summer Adventure event is over we have weekly premiers to make episodes about. Once those are done, however, we’ll get to doing individual episodes about each episode of the Summer Adventure.

Episode 99: Week three of the Summer Adventure | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:27

Sophia and GC13 are in to talk about the week the Summer Adventure really heated up. Week three (stateside) consisted of Gem Hunt, Crack the Whip, Steven vs Amethyst, and Bismuth. Weren’t those Beach City episodes from the first two weeks nice? We didn’t get much of that Beach City flavor this week (though we did get a little taste). It’s definitely story arc season, and that means ramping hype! Each week during the Summer Adventure event we’ll do an episode briefly going over the previous week’s episodes; once the event is done we’ll buckle down and start doing a full episode for each episode of the event after new weekly episodes stop.

Episode 98: Week two of the Summer Adventure | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:36

GC13 and Hunter discuss the second week of the Summer Adventure event: Restaurant Wars, Kiki’s Pizza Delivery Service, Monster Reunion, Alone at Sea, and Greg the Babysitter. This week had something we had been hoping for for a long time, and we’re pretty sure you now what it was. It also had Steven doing a very convincing Hunter impression, which was also fun. Of course it also got a bit heavy, but in the sadness there was hope. Each week during the Summer Adventure event we’ll do an episode briefly going over the previous week’s episodes; once the event is done we’ll buckle down and start doing a full episode for each episode of the event after new weekly episodes stop.

Episode 97: Week one of the Summer Adventure | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:43

GC13, Sophia, and Ken get together to go over their initial thoughts about the first week of the Summer Adventure event: Steven Floats, Drop Beat Dad, Mr. Greg, Too Short to Ride, The New Lars, and Beach City Drift. If you can’t find an episode in the event you loved, you probably aren’t looking very hard (you probably also didn’t watch Mr. Greg or Too Short to Ride). Even if some episodes were more controversial than others, there was plenty to enjoy. Each week during the Summer Adventure event we’ll do an episode briefly going over the previous week’s episodes; once the event is done we’ll buckle down and start doing a full episode for each episode of the event (unless new episodes interrupt us!).

Episode 96: Upcoming Summer Adventure episodes | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:28

GC13 and Hunter do another hype piece, talking about what we know about the first two weeks of the Summer Adventure event. If you’re allergic to spoilers, then this episode will probably give you a reaction. A triumphant return to Beach City is a lot to get hyped for. It’s tough to give a good description of what’s in the podcast episode without also spoiling what’s coming up in the event, but neither Hunter nor GC13 would want to let this go without saying one thing: It’s _____ time!

Episode 95: Previews for the Summer Adventure | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:19

GC13 discusses the Everything’s Changing (big spoiler warning) and The Bazzzillionaire previews, plus the commercial airing to promote the Summer Adventure Steven Universe event. A mega-bomb of twenty-one episodes in four weeks isn’t what many of us would have chosen, but at least we have some enticing previews. Greg has money now? Let’s hope he gets to keep some by the end of the episode! As for the Everything’s Changing preview? Well, don’t listen past the Mr. Greg bit in the podcast if you don’t want a big spoiler dropped on you, because as the link above indicates, it’s quite a big one.

 Episode 94: Alone Together | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:59

GC13 and Hunter are alone together to discuss Alone Together, one of the heavier-hitting episodes of the series. So, this episode was a big one. Not so significant for the story arc (which Warp Tour was a crucial episode in), but with so much to say not just about the characters but about relationships in the real world. Of course Steven and Connie are just adorable, and the real question is when we’ll get to see more of Stevonnie (not counting their very brief appearance in We Need to Talk). For those curious, this is the article about the episode mentioned by Hunter, and this is the drawing of Stevonnie by Ms. Mitroff.

 Episode 93: Warp Tour | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:44

GC13, Sophia, and Dakota discuss a big episode: Warp Tour. So Peridot didn’t turn out to be the biggest, baddest Gem we’d ever see—in fact she turned out to be great and lovable! That doesn’t make her reveal any less amazing. Looking back on Warp Tour with the benefit of knowledge gained in later episodes we know why the homeworld was finally returning to Earth after so long. At the moment though? With no information? That’s quite a bomb to drop in the series. Now Peridot is small and living in a barn with Lapis. (Jasper next? Maybe? Please?)

 Episode 92: Pink Diamond Theory | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:29

GC13 comes out for another solo episode discussing a favorite theory: that Rose used to be or used to work for Pink Diamond, the missing fourth member of the Great Diamond Authority. It’s a well-known theory, though less popular in its strict Rose-as-Pink-Diamond form after It Could’ve Been Great. GC13 still hasn’t lost faith in the greatness of Rose, however, though Rose’s greatness would certainly not be diminished if she were a champion of Pink Diamond. In addition to an overview of the theory there are a couple fun hints from the show, one leading more towards Rose being a champion, the other towards Rose being a Diamond herself. Who knows where the show will take us when it finally makes its reveal?
