This is a Forum on DMR that I have given previously, and posted on this series, but it has evolved over time. I wanted to record the latest version and call it "DMR 101" because I plan to record another episode soon which I will title "DMR 201", so that I can talk to an audience that is experienced with DMR. DMR is growing rapidly, and it is the most active all-digital mode in Amateur Radio today. You really can't have too many videos about it ;)Comments are welcome. A special thanks to the folks down at the Greater Houston Hamfest, who allowed me to present this forum and record it. I'm looking forward to attending that show again next year.http://livefromthehamshack.tv
This is a new radio from QYT in China that transmits on 4 bands, 3 of which are usable by Amateurs in the USA.http://livefromthehamshack.tv
From Texas Digital Radio comes the UHF DMR/Analog 45-watt mobile transceiver. Very similar to the Connect Systems radio, but with more optional features. In this video, I will show how to build a codeplug, and we will see what the radio sounds like while listening to the Texas Statewide DMR Net.http://livefromthehamshack.tv
The Dallas Amateur Radio Club recently setup some AREDN MESH nodes in a local park, for purposes of demonstration of how the network is built, connects and some applications used. This is one of those events. The Club does these periodically, so my plan is to record a few of these, with examples of how MESH Networking works for Amateur Radiohttp://hamradio2.com
In this episode, I talk about the 2 RFinder devices - the original H1, and the new M1. The M1 is now my daily carry Smartphone and 2-way radio. I'll talk about differences between the 2 models, and we'll do some QSOs on DMR with the M1http://hamradio2.com
TYT's newest addition to their analog radio line is the TH-8600, which is a full-color screen dual band mini-mobile radio. Outputting 25-watts on VHF and 20-watts on UHF, and with its compact size, this radio should be a good addition to any go-kit or compact car.http://livefromthehamshack.tv
During the Orlando Hamcation, Gary Pearce and I walked around and spoke to some of the vendors and booth-holders at the show. This is the presentation on those interviews.I plan to do more of these types of shows upcoming on http://hamradio2.com so please subscribe and stay tuned for future episodes.
Comparison of Digital Modes for Amateur Radio:This comparison of DMR, DSTAR and YSF was given by Jim Keeley, W1JJK, at the 2017 Orlando Hamcation. Jim speaks about how the modes differ, how they work, and what features each one has. This is an information-sharing forum, and not meant to sway anyone to or from any particular mode.http://livefromthehamshack.tv
The future of Dayton:This forum was recorded at the 2017 Orlando Hamcation, administered by Michael Kalter, W8CI, and Jim Tiderman, N8IDS. Come here some updated information on the new venue for the 2017 Dayton Hamvention.http://livefromthehamshack.tv
This is a rag-chew session with Gary from HamRadioNow and Katie from HRO during the 2017 Orlando Hamcation. We talk about the Hamcation, each of our jobs in Amateur Radio, and Social Media in General. Good times at the Hamfest
Let's load a new image onto the Raspberry Pi, one that was specifically designed for Ham Radio Operators to be able to use their RPi as a digital hotspot for various digital voice modes. Also I will show you how to update the MD380Tools firmware and UserID database on an existing radio that is running the custom firmware.
I'm planning some upcoming videos of how we, as Hams, can use the Raspberry Pi devices in our hobby. Might as well start at the beginning - let's talk about what it is, and what they do.
Mark - KD5RXT shares his instructions for making a MESH network comprised of both AREDN and BBHN devices. Recorded at the Cowtown Hamfest in Ft. Worth Texas, January 2017
Recorded at the Cowtown Hamfest in Ft. Worth, Texas, Mark - KD5RXT presents a forum topic on how to build a Raspberry Pi computer with a DVmega, and use it as a DMR hotspot for users who aren't near a DMR repeater.
In this episode, I will walk you through the process of setting up a new Ubiquiti Node from scratch, and flashing it with the latest AREDN firmware. Then we will connect it to another node and look at the channel options on the firmware itself.
