Airbus is taking a majority stake in Bombardier's troubled CSeries Program (0:35) which Rohan likes to call, "the mic drop." As if Vinay doesn't have enough reasons to call Rohan out for being a stereotypical millennial, Rohan insisted that Vinay humor a discussion about a potential United - JetBlue merger (23:35). Onto more concrete topics, we dive into Q3 2017 earnings season by discussing Delta's results (34:10).
We start by checking in on the continued woes at AirBerlin and Alitalia (1:10). We also take a look at Ryanair, which once appeared to be one of the highest bidders for some of Alitalia's assets. But now, Ryanair is suffering from extensive operational and commercial fallout over a pilot shortage (16:35). We then move on to Turkish Airlines' blockbuster order for 40 787-9s (30:18). We wrap up the show by discussing new trans-Atlantic routes from Delta in Summer 2018 in nontraditional markets (36:30).
We start off by examining the consequences that natural disasters have on air travel (4:07). Next, we evaluate new transatlantic routes (15:25) across the Atlantic to midsized markets like Nashville and Indianapolis. A countervailing factor transatlantic capacity reductions in the form of Air Berlin (25:05), who filed for insolvency on August 15. Speaking of transformation, Sun Country is revamping its business model (32:10) to a ULCC. Finally, Rohan and Vinay do a pulse check on Basic Economy (37:23).
