WTFFF 182: How Come You Never Make Me Anything? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:07:41

Happy Mardi Gras! In this WTFFF?! episodes Tracy asks Tom “How come you never make me anything?” I always say how you never make me anything, but it’s really not true. You did make me something for Mardi Gras. Not for Valentine’s Day, mind you, but for Mardi Gras. We had the opportunity to be on a Game of Thrones Mardi Gras float in the parade in San Diego this past weekend. And you made me a Melisandre necklace.  You’re going to dress up for a costume party, and you need the right accessory. This is a good example. You can make it.  WTFFF 181: 3D Print Your Way To A Super Bowl Ad | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:08:08

In This WTFFF?! episode Tom & Tracy discuss this guy on the Carolina Panthers team who is playing in the Super Bowl. We don’t actually know the outcome of the Super Bowl yet. But this guy Thomas Davis broke his arm in the NFC Championship game, and he had surgery the next day and had a whole bunch of screws put in the bone of his arm to hold it together. Theoretically, he can play, but he will probably be in quite a bit of pain even though it was about two weeks ago. It’s still not healed yet; that takes a while. But the Panthers needed the guy to play, but they needed a brace, and they need it yesterday. Their question was: Can you do it?  WTFFF 180: How to Improve Your 3D Prints | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:11:28

In this episode of WTFFF?! Tracy asks Tom a question about how to improve the quality of a 3D print. What is the attack process? It starts with defining what improvement is to you. Is it just speed because it is taking too long to print? Or is it quality of the surface smoothness and things like that? Is it having it come off the build plate and it’s done? Meaning you don’t have to clean anything up. There are many things to consider, but also many ways to make improvements to your 3D Prints   To send us a message, go to 3dstartpoint.com or wtfffpodcast.com or shoot us a message at info@wtfffpodcast.com or on our facebook or twitter! Its absolutely free, so ask away and and don’t forget to subscribe so you can hear more on our regularly scheduled Thursday podcast episodes!

WTFFF 179: The Netflix Of On Demand 3D Printing with Hector Berrebi of 3DShook | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:33:06

3DShook has made the WTFFF?! Best Of list multiple times. The Valentine’s Day list was published recently, and another item of theirs made the list. In this episode of WTFFF?!, Tom & Tracy interview Hector Berrebi of 3DShook to learn about what makes their content different. Are they the Netflix of on demand 3D printing? We discovered that they are actually designing themselves. They have exclusive content; it is not your average, user-generated file repository. This is actual designers who are making a living at it, who are being paid to create exclusive content for 3DShook to distribute. And that’s really impressive. It’s different from a lot of things. That’s why it’s no surprise they are making our list time after time. In this WTFFF?! episode, Tom & Tracy discuss an upcoming “Ask Us Anything’ event they are doing in cooperation with MatterHackers. It’s a meet-up with MatterHackers. But it’s an “Ask Us Anything” event where Lars and Taylor from MatterHackers along with Tom & Tracy will be there to answer questions about 3D printing. It’s going to be your opportunity as an interested listener and a 3D printing person in the community to come in and meet us and some of the leaders of MatterHackers and ask questions and start to immerse yourself more in this industry. People should start looking for meet-ups in their area that offer more than just sales. This is really about support and reaching out to the local community.  WTFFF 177: How Can I Get Educated for a Career in 3D Printing? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:08:57

In this WTFFF?! episode Tom & Tracy received a question over Facebook from a listener who is about to retire from the military, and is seeking a second career in the 3D printing industry. He is asking, What degree or education path would we recommend the most for him to become a valuable asset in the coming years? That is the first part of his question. The second part is: Are there any minimum software certifications he should know about? Great questions.  WTFFF 176: Valentines Day Suggestions | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:06:55

In this WTFFF?! episode, Tracy Asks Tom a question: "What are you going to print me for Valentine’s Day?"              The reality is, it does take a long time to create and then model and test and print something new. You better think ahead or get a jump start, which is why we post our "Best Of" lists. We just posted our Valentine’s Day Best of list, and while I’m not super excited about all of the things on the list—some of them are just a little cutesy—but there are a couple of nice things there. Especially if you are new to 3D printing and just want to show off and say, “Hey, look, I know you’ve been really patient with me while I have been trying to learn this 3D printer and taking time away from my significant other. Look, I printed you something.” That would be a nice gesture.  WTFFF 175: Food 3D Printing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:10:30

Food 3D Printing has come from a couple of times from listeners over social media asking us about the sugar printers and the chocolate printers. I promised we would follow up because I really want one. Of course, we went to CES at the beginning of this month, and there was quite a significant display of the food 3D printers at the 3D Systems booth. It’s the second year in a row; they had it last year, and they had it again this year. But there have been some developments, and even XYZ has a printer that does cookies. My point is there is more than just 3D Systems. Other people are working on it and experimenting with it, and we are hoping a good desktop sugar printer comes out soon because I know our daughter would be all over that. She is a baker, so we would love to have that It was really exciting at CES to see how far this food 3D printing thing is coming!  WTFFF 174: 3D Printing Apps Promote Ease of Use with Drew Taylor of AstroPrint | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:40:33

In this WTFFF?! episode we decided to follow up withsomeone we met at SoCal MakerCon. Back then we didn’t have enough time to getin depth about what they do; the company is AstroPrint. In the SoCal MakerConinterview with him I said that their company is just apps and software, so it didn’tquite excite me. But now that we havelearned more about it, I actually think it really is exciting. Drew Taylor is one ofthe founders of AstroPrint, and we had a really good interview with him.  WTFFF 173: 3D Print Design Customization | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:11:05

One of the greatest advantages of 3D Printing technology is the ability to make each pat you print unique. The amount of time to create and prepare each part to print can be complicated and time consuming. In this WTFFF?! episode Tom & Tracy discuss tips and best practices for customizing your 3D models to speed the process and achieve the best 3D Print results.  WTFFF 172: Should you 3D print 200 parts, or only one and cast the rest? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:07:15

If you need to make 200 of a napkin ring for a party that takes one hour each to 3D Print, should you 3D Print them all, or just one and then make a silicone mold to cast the rest? This is another great question submitted by Eduardo Martini of Brazil. In this WTFFF?! episode Tom & Tracy go over the details and weigh the options between speed, skills required, material quality, design limitations, and labor.  WTFFF 171: Is 3D Printing many parts at one time better? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:10:06

A long time listener from Brazil, Eduardo Martini, has written in with a couple of good new 3D printing questions including, "If you need a quantity of 200, is it better to print them one at a time, or as many as you can fit on the build plate at once?" In this WTFFF?! episode Tom & Tracy discuss the pros and cons of this issue, because the answer is not as straight forward as you might think.  WTFFF 170: 3D Printer Overload | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:13:03

In this WTFFF?! episode Tom and Tracy discuss 3D Printer overload. After yesterday’s interview with Aniwaa and learning about how many printers, scanners, and software they have in their database as it exists today—926 3D printers alone—our minds are blown. We feel like we are having 3D printer overload right now.             Every week on Kickstarter or in the media, there is another press release or announcement about a new 3D printer in the market. We saw a few at CES that are start-ups that will be coming in the market shortly, and they’re probably not even in the database yet because most don’t have full websites yet. That’s really the thing that struck us yesterday. How does anybody keep track of this and sort it all out?  WTFFF 169: Martin Lansard and Pierre-Antoine Arrighi of Aniwaa | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:47:52

In This WTFFF?! episode Tom & Tracy have an interview from across the pond over in France with two business partners and co-founders of a website called Aniwaa.com. They are Martin Lansardand Pierre-Antoine Arrighi. Aniwaa started out as a blog with product comp charts, which were awesome, because they would compare features between multiple printers, five or six of them at a time. Then there was a quick-sort as well. We thought it was a really useful tool, and have used it many times. Now they have launched a whole new website that is trying to be a major resource for anybody looking at the 3D printing ecosystem of printers, scanners, and software. These guys are really product-knowledgeable and product-agnostic, as we like to call them; they are not tied to one product. It’s not a website from a product company pretending to be independent. They really are independent.  WTFFF 168: Consumer vs. Prosumer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:13:04

In this WTFFF?! episode Tom and Tracy discuss if the future market for 3D printing more consumer or prosumer? This question is coming up because of 3D Systems’ decision to abandon the consumer market, not sell the Cube 3D Printer, and go back to their roots of industrial 3D printing and the prosumer market in general. The prosumer may be the closest to the consumer market they are going to get because they are staying more commercial, their comfort zone of where they have been, but they are recognizing the prosumer market is something they need to serve.
