Can Math Actually Be Fun? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 39:18

Ever since we started using the Life of Fred math curriculum nine years ago, I've wished I could talk to the author of this creative and fun material. So when I started the Homeschool Sanity Show podcast last fall, I knew I would ask Stanley Schmidt to be a guest. I was thrilled when he agreed.   Even though I thought I knew a lot about Life of Fred, I learned a number of  things from Dr. Schmidt, especially what my role as the teacher should be. You'll want to listen for tips on getting the most out of this fun curriculum and news about Dr. Schmidt's future plans.   You can find Life of Fred curriculum, complete with sample pages, at Life of Fred.com. To learn more about Dr. Schmidt, visit her personal blog at StanleySchmidt.com.  Ideas for Learning with Nature Walks | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:57

One of the huge perks of homeschooling is we can get outside to do our learning. In my interview with Cindy West of Shining Dawn Books, I was not only motivated to take more nature walks with the kids, but I was also inspired to learn that nature walks can easily comprise an entire science curriculum! To find out how and all the other subjects you can teach with nature walks, you'll want to listen to this episode. I really can't say enough about Cindy's ebook 100+ Easy & Fun Creative Nature Walks. As a very busy, spur-of-the-moment, homeschooling mom, I love that I can have access to the ideas on my phone or tablet so we can learn on the fly. They take very little preparation and go beyond learning to making memories. Other excellent books authored by Cindy which were discussed on the podcast include: Homeschooling Gifted & Advanced Learners (superb!)  Discover & Develop Your Child’s Talent | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 40:09

My interview with Jonathan Harris of 10k to Talent completely changed the way I view talent education. I had the stereotypical view that I needed to start training my child by age 3 and then make sure that they devoted hours a day to practicing to develop a talent. Fortunately, that isn't what talent education is, because I haven't done that! In this podcast, you'll learn: * A whole new way of thinking about talent * Why you shouldn't worry that your child's talent is video games * What to consider if your child has a musical talent * How to keep your child's talent from dying in high school * How to structure your homeschooling around your child's talent (hint: maybe he's done enough history and literature!) I highly recommend Jonathan's ebook, How to Discover and Develop Your Child's First 100 Hours of Talent. I'd love for you to read about how I've been using it to discover my 14-year-old's talent. I also share my enthusiasm for his Blog to Your Talent ecourse. Jonathan discussed Lindsey Sterling on YouTube. Play Podcast
