A new report issued by Amnesty International details the massive civilian death and suffering among civilians in Raqqa, Syria during the 2017 US attacks on the town. Was it really necessary to destroy the city to save it?
The US Supreme Court ruled more or less in favor of the Masterpiece Cake Shop's owner refusing to bake wedding cakes for same-sex couples on religious grounds. While conservatives may view this as a victory, in fact the ruling may end up hurting conservatives and libertarians more than helping them.
Violence at schools and the proliferation of bad ideas into the classroom have led more and more parents to look into homeschooling. Good idea!
Reports are circulating that the US is considering sending its THAAD missile defense system to Germany to, they claim, guard against the Iranian threat. Are the Iranians -- or the Russians -- about to attack Berlin? Or is this another big win for the US defense contractors?
Tariffs are taxes on Americans for the benefit of a tiny group of politically-connected corporations. Taxation can never lead to prosperity. Unfortunately, constant doses of patriotic propaganda convince Americans that they're being robbed for their own good. Ron Paul discusses the destructiveness of tariffs on today's Liberty Report.
What do you think authoritarians, who want everyone to obey their will, would prefer more? A nation of free thinking individuals, guided by their own beliefs, opinions and desires? Or a nation of people who can't detect truth, and who don't know what they're 'allowed' to think, or 'allowed' to say? Which would rulers prefer? Ron Paul discusses the mental prison known as Political-Correctness.
The US European Commander wants more US troops in Europe "to deter Russian aggression." Meanwhile, Poland is offering the US $2 billion to build a permanent US base on its territory. And the US is moving 2,500 new tanks and fighting vehicles into Europe. Does Russia really want to invade Europe? Or is this a fantasy of the US military-industrial complex?
Endless threats and demands have led the rest of the world to increasingly just ignore Washington.
Informed that the Trump/Kim summit was off for next month, North and South Korean leaders did the unexpected: With a phone call they were soon meeting on the border trying to figure out how to keep the diplomatic ball rolling. Will the summit be back on the agenda? Does it really matter?
On this Memorial Day, what if we were to contemplate some very important, life-saving questions...
The central planners at The Federal Reserve released their most recent minutes, and guess what they want? Higher prices! They want inflation to run hot. So while Americans clock into their jobs (for the same amount of money) the central planners are manipulating the economy to drive the costs of everything up! Isn't that nice of them? Ron Paul weighs in on the central bank that should not exist.
President Trump has yielded again to the neocons, announcing this morning that next month's historic summit with the North Korean leader is off. Trump was upset that the North Koreans got upset by the repeated threats of a "Libya model" for North Korea coming out of the White House. What comes next? What will South Korea do? China?
After 17 years of war, innumerable new "strategies," and trillions of dollars spent, the US war in Afghanistan is no closer to being "won" than ever. Will naming yet another war commander do the trick? Don't hold your breath!
Can we just end the CIA already?
Secretary of State Michael Pompeo threatened Iran with annihilation in a speech yesterday at the neoconservative Heritage Foundation. His twelve demands of Iran read like the demands made of Serbia in 1914 -- they are designed not to reduce tensions but to lead to war. But is all the bombast in the Trump Administration on Iran just a sign of weakness? The claims in Pompeo's speech are demonstrably false. Why lie when the lies are so easy to refute?
