 DLD 138: Na·ive·té | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:09

It seems I did figure out how to spell Naïveté. I suppose that's a good thing. Even better are the real topics in this week's show, including: * American Airlines is cutting back on commercial charter operations and the NFL is one of its targets. Six teams are looking for a new airline for the 2017 season: https://www.forbes.com/sites/tedreed/2017/04/15/american-airlines-drops-charter-flights-for-six-nfl-teams-including-dolphins-and-steelers/#3155706d4cbc * Back in September 2015 a British Airways 777 (BA2276) caught fire leaving Las Vegas. Some of the NTSB interview notes are now public and it is either scary or spectacularly reassuring, depending on your level of confidence or ignorance of the system. * United Airlines made the news, again, for kicking someone off a plane and using LEOs to help. No leggings this time and it was probably justified based on behavior. Still, methinks there's going to be a lot more of this in the future and that mostly sucks for everyone: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/man-fiancee-kicked-united-flight-en-route-wedding-article-1.3062286 * No one flies over North Korea. That's hardly new and is unlikely to change: https://blog.flightradar24.com/blog/a-look-at-airspace-in-north-korea-and-the-surrounding-area/ * What's your Ideal spring Holy Week trip? With Passover, Easter and Songkran all occurring around the same time of year and plenty of destinations available to celebrate each of them where would our hosts go? Where would you go?? Enjoy!

DLD 137: But WHY did you fly there? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:12

After years of fighting to receive the necessary permits to base aircraft in Ireland and fly them to the United States one of the first destinations might not be able to handle expanded service. I suppose the good news is that Norwegian never announced Cork-Stewart service (Providence only) but there is some irony there. Frontier is reportedly looking to become publicly traded. The profit numbers seem to support that plan, though who really knows in the airline world. Seth got to poke around in AirBaltic's CS300 in Hamburg last week. And, thanks to listener request, we talk a bit about why we spend so much time on planes. Leave a comment or question and we might talk about your ideas next. Enjoy the show!

 DLD 136: The Schmear Sphere | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:32

Early April means Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg and this is our traditional Expo-wrap episode. Guests John Walton and Jason Rabinowitz join Seth to talk about new seats, upgraded internet service and some other fun changes to the way you'll be flying in the coming years. Among the topics: * Recaro's slidey seat partnership with Airbus could mean more flexible cabin layouts https://youtu.be/Nst4dOCsnb8 * Side Slip is not Slip-and-Slide but it is pretty cool. Also of questionable viability in the real world. https://twitter.com/AirlineFlyer/status/849620208071397378 * Seth was on the CS300 for a quick tour https://youtu.be/gyqRmV1Genc * Panasonic Avionics has some incredible new IFE screens on the market, including a 43" 4K model that is expected to fly next summer. https://twitter.com/WandrMe/status/849902613088927750 * Panasonic also announced that it will be launching its internet service on Southwest in July. https://twitter.com/WandrMe/status/849911256408608768 * Air Asia & Inmarsat teamed up for better/faster/more wifi * Airbus is talking A380 densification again, including new stairs and 11-abreast seating https://twitter.com/AirlineFlyer/status/849176882062995456 * Thales has a new IFE remote control that's pretty damn cool https://youtu.be/Sr5sDIjNeYI   Enjoy the show!

United has a brand new 77W with fancy new seats in business class. It also is adding a bunch of routes with CRJ-200s on domestic flights. Economy class travel is not so great.
