This episode is sick. Because, yes, we talk about illness. WebMD has a piece on vaccinations and autism as does the CDC. The Council on Foreign Relations tracks outbreaks of diseases that are preventable by vaccinations. The flu shot versus the flu mist, which would win in a fight? When Jon grew up during the Depression, his mom gave him Paregoric. Yeah, it's opium. We get weepy about Batkid and then talk about testicular torsion and circumcision. And, finally... NORM! We talk food this week and how kids seem to have their own opinions about what they like to eat which is really annoying. We discuss some of our strategies and tactics and the outright lies we tell our kids in order to get them to eat something that's not the deboned finger of a mutated chicken-man or a wad of government cheese. To that end we recommend Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld. Contrary to what John Moltz says in the episode, peas are a vegetable, just not a very good one. Sort of a slacker vegetable. Soybeans, however, which are what edamame are, are legumes, not vegetables. So Jon Armstrong can't claim to be feeding his kids vegetables if that's his only vector. John Moltz recommends V8 V-Fusion Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade. (It has vegetables in it, but don't tell his son.) And here's a recipe for Whopper pie. Because you earned your treat.
