This plant was a housewarming gift when we first moved into our home and I am very proud that through regular refurbishment I have been able to keep it around all this time. I have many uses for empty wine bottles in my garden. Witness this wine bottle edging video I posted last year. (How-to: Wine bottle edging for your garden beds project) Now, in the heat of Summer, wine bottles find a new use as slow waterers for my container plants. I fill them with water and up-end them into the pot. A bit of soil is forced into the neck of the bottle, acting like a sort of wick, which allows the water to slowly drain directly into the roots of the plants. When working correctly, you should only see a water bubble rising up the wine bottle every minute or so. Can't see the video above?
