Tales From The Jungle Crews

We gave you the middle part of our trip back in time last week, and this week we bring you the third part of our chat from last year. The lovely Sue B makes her second appearance on the podcast, and we get to chat with the incredibly wonderful John Malloy. This episode has one of my absolutely favorite dirty stories I have ever heard from a CM, and it turns into a devolved round table with a lot of Skips coming in and telling their stories.  Next week's episode is going to be a biggie, but we know this one will keep you occupied and happy until then. Hey Skips, we're back! This week we present the second episode of our 5th season, concluding our chat with the fantastically funny Jen Chavez. We talk about the Skipper Standup show, which already has happened now, and was a fantastic success. I had such a great time getting to know her, and I am sure you will too. We're not dipping very far back into the vault for this one, but this episode from last April is very short on the listens it deserves. Skippers Jerry Whitfield and Jimm Vest met up with us at a Skipper gathering at a very wonderful Skip's South OC house. It was my first time meeting both of these fine gentlemen, and I really enjoyed the opportunity. So, the clock keeps turning, and our fourth year of Skippertainment comes to a close. We had such an amazing year with you all, and our 5th season looks to be even better. New podcasts, new guests, new t-shirts, and some amazing surprises. Thanks, everyone for joining us on this ride. In this week's episode, we sit down and chat with our very own Skipperette Jen Chavez. Jen is our content manager for our Facebook page, and she does an amazing job. Her tale at Jungle has some fun twists and turns, and her views on vintage Disney are great. She also just made her stand-up comedy debut on July 12th (hence the title) and she totally killed. Our 4th year is wrapping up, and we had a busy busy weekend. We met with 120 cm's from the 80's and 90's. We had our Sunday Social at Sam's, and we got to hang out with a bunch of podcast listeners.  So, this is a different episode, in the same way the Disney Family Museum episode was. This one is just me. I have been in a lot of discussions lately with people who ask me why I do the podcast, what I get out of it, why the Jungle has stuck with me the way I have, and if I am just an egocentric narcissistic maniac who can't hear enough of his own voice. (For the record, no...) So, as a way of wrapping up the first 4 years of this little experiment in niche podcasting, I just wanted to take 20 minutes and let you know a little about me, why Jungle is such a thing for me, and what the podcast means to me. This may totally not be your thing, and if it isn't, we'll have a new episode in 2 weeks to get you back in the stream and the regular Jungle Crews merriment.   

Rerun time again, Jungle Fans! When people ask me which episode of the show to start with, this is one of the 3 episodes I pull out of the bag right away. Still, over the last 3 months it hasn't had a lot of play, so I think a lot of new listeners might not have experienced it. So, let me introduce you to Mayor John Duran, one of the most genuine and charismatic people I have ever met. John's story weaves through many of the podcasts, as he was a very strong figure in the experience of many Skippers. This one was a genuine pleasure for me to record, and it has a special place in the podcast history for me. Enjoy, and Kungaloosh!

Hey Adventurers! We're back with another rerun to fill our week between episodes. This week, we're revisiting an episode from this time last year. It's not too old, but because it happened before our big "bump", it never really got the number of plays that I feel like it deserved. Skipper Jesse Banda is a great guy, has his own pop culture podcast and empire, and is known for his movie and nerd knowledge. On top of that, he hails from that mid 1990's time where there were so many changes happening in the Jungle. Time for more Skippertainment? This week, it's even more entertain-y than usual. We welcome Skipper David Marley to the podcast. Host and driving force behind the Skipper Standup shows, Dr Marley is also a Disneyland historian, having taught classes on the history of the park, as well as being in the process of writing a book on everyone's favorite attraction, the Jungle Cruise. We're excited to have him, and it has been a long time coming. It seems like May has turned into a whole Orlando themed month, so let's keep that up with our re-broadcast of our second episode with a WDW Skip. Skipper Timothy Bernardi was one of the earliest "fans" of the show, going back to 2012. He spent a whole 2 part episode with us, catching us up on his time at Walt Disney World, working in the theme park industry, and his love of the Jungle. This was our second Skype interview, so the audio is particularly Skype-ish, but we've gone back and fixed the audio as best we could. Tons of exciting stuff coming in the next few weeks, as always, so stop back next week for another new episode...

Skipper DJ Elliot is back in the second half of this nail-biting conclusion to the split episode. Did Maria actually die in the car crash? Will Trader Sam ever find love? Will Skipper Kyle ever stop reaching to make really stupid jokes in these intros? No, seriously, Elliot was a super-cool guest, and we really had a great time going through his experience at the Walt Disney World Jungle Cruise. Another week, and time for another venture back into the archives of the podcast. This week we go back to Summer of 2014 (it seems so far back, already) and our conversation with Skipper Kevin Cavanaugh. Kevin, at the time, was the Skip who had worked the earliest that we had interviewed. (1976) He was very warm, and welcoming, and we had a really great chat about what it was like to work at Disneyland in the 70's. We're headed back to Orlando! WDW is where the adventures of our latest Skipper Interviewee happened. Skipper Elliot was at the Jungle East, but his adventures span more than just his time in the Jungle. We have a fantastic discussion about the differences between Anaheim and Orlando, as well as his exciting times behind the wheel of the boats in both places. Just over 2 years ago, we had our first taste of what it was like to work at the WDW Jungle Cruise, when we spoke with Skippers Alan Shankle and Johnny V. This was one of our first Skype interviews, and we're looking forward to doing more. We learned about some of the differences between Disneyland and WDW, and really got a good feel for the Skipper mentality there. This week's rerun is our first trip to Orlando... But is there a reason *why* we are revisiting our East Coast brethren this week? Well, you will find out on April 28th, for our next new episode! Special surprises abound!
