GAME OF THRONES shifted into high gear during season 7, and served up a steaming hot plate of action, dragon battles, character twists, and more. So... why did it all feel so flat? We review the plot packed, but a little underwhelming season, talk about Jon and Dany, Tyrion being dumb all of the sudden, and more. Next week is a very special 200TH EPISODE! Send us your questions about That Thing You Like, our thoughts on continuing to make it, and more at @TTYLshow on Twitter!
SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING marks the third Spider-Man franchise, but the first under Marvel. Released to mostly rave reviews, it features a fun high school focus, a diverse cast, and some nice acting from Tom Holland and Michael Keaton. So why did one of us not love it? We argue about character arcs, effective Spider-Man storytelling, and the Marvel formula on the ROAD TO EPISODE 200!
With ATOMIC BLONDE in theatres, we turn back to David Leitch's smash co-directed first hit: JOHN WICK! In 2014, only one movie was brave enough to change the world and actually show audiences what was happening on screen. And John Wick was it! We also talk about how a movie heavy on gun-fu and action packed in a surprising amount of lore, and what elements make it a compelling re-watch anytime. Plus, Ian McShane belongs in everything, and the world needs more Adrianne Palicki.
Taika Waititi's THOR RAGNAROK is about to hit theatres this fall - but his other major directing credit, WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS deserves praise. A thousand years of undead praise! We talk about this hilarious, sometimes moving Vampire mockumentary, its reverence for Vampire lore, and how Jemaine Clement steals the show. We also talk about what the movie might say about a certain "softboy" type of romantic interaction, as well as masculinity in general. Enjoy!
