Episode #011 Recorded Thursday, February 28, 2013 "Fighting Like A Man" HOST: Chris Clevenger     Show Notes: Introductory Thoughts: The "Fight of the Century" was the first of three bouts between heavyweight champions Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali in the 1970s. Held on March 8, 1971, the Fight of the Century pitted reigning undefeated heavyweight champion Frazier (26-0, 23 KO) against the challenger Ali (31-0, 25 KO), who'd never been beaten in the ring in his professional career but had been stripped of his title four years earlier. Frazier won the 15-round fight in an unanimous decision in front of a capacity crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York. "Joe Frazier was a truth machine, and if you weren't in supreme condition he would find it out." - One Nation Divisible: Ali-Frazier Documentary Sometimes it is the duty of a man to fight. Other times it is his duty to flee. Paul instructed Timothy, his Biblical Manliness protege, to fight for certain things. Here's how we can "fight" like men. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6:12) I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: (1 Cor. 9:26) I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: (2 Timothy 4:7) Combat "Fight the Good Fight" Heb 11:34 - "Waxed valiant in fight" Ephesians 6:10-13 - Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Cause "Lay Hold on Eternal Life" 1 Timothy 6:19 - "Lay hold on eternal life" 1 Chron. 11:15-19 - David wanted water from the well in Bethlehem. Three mighty men went to retrieve it. Calling "Whereunto Thou Art Also Called" We are called into battle by the Gospel. (1 Thes. 2:14) Confession "Professed a Good Profession Before Many Witnesses" 1 Timothy 6:13 - I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; Hebrews 4:14 - Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. When the Mexican forces were splintered due to Houston's retreat, the Texans charged with 783 troops against a force nearly twice their size. Only two Texans were killed and 30 wounded. Santa Anna was captured and the Mexican troops were forced to withdraw from Texan soil (April 21, 1836). Sometimes it is the duty of a man to fight. Other times it is his duty to flee. "Youthful Lusts" Flee fornication (1 Cor. 6:18) Joseph fled (Genesis 39:12) "The grace of God enabled Joseph to overcome the temptation, by avoiding the temper. He would not stay to parley with the temptation, but fled from it, as escaping for his life. If we mean not to do iniquity, let us flee as a bird from the snare, and as a roe from the hunter." - Matthew Henry Run To...
