He currently runs the aubd.com.au basketball college which runs out of the Waverley basketball stadium in Victoria. Sedale Threatt made history after being taken 139th in the 1983 draft, playing with NBA legends like Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Charles Barkley, James Worthy, Hakeem Olajuwon, Magic Johnson, Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan and a whole lot more. “I was in charge of everything except finance and (they) told me I can't generate any revenue no phone calls or anything your locked down" – Derek Rucker on his time running the Sydney Kings Derek Rucker finished his NBL in the top ten all-time in scoring (7th), assists (4th), steals (4th) and three-point field goals made (5th). His 10.6 assists per game in 1994 is the highest season average ever and he holds the record for assists in a game with a mind boggling 24 dimes which is a record which may never be broken in the NBL. We spoke to Derek about what he is doing now, growing up as the son of NFL legend Reggie Rucker, having his jersey retired at Davidson University, trialling with the Cleveland Cav's and facing Mark Price, playing basketball in El Salvador during a civil war, his failed attempt to crack Hollywood as well as his illustrious NBL career which included stops at Brisbane, Newcastle, Townsville and West Sydney. We also chat about the fact that in 2007 he spoke out about basketball needed to reduce it's number of teams, move to 40 minute games and "get more physical". He shares his thoughts on where he feels the NBL is going and well as divulges what happened behind the scenes when the Sydney Kings folded in 2008 and he was acting as the clubs executive director.
