Delivering the right products at the right time can provide a powerful boost to a manufacturer's bottom line. Dominic Tavassoli from IBM Rational, explores the tradeoffs associated with capability (i.e. function, time to market) versus the complexity introduced by additional product features and ecosystem interoperability that actually make a product "smarter".
Today we are going to talk about two different co-development solutions from IBM - one around the use of ClearCase in conjunction with Cadence Design Systems, a leading EDA company and IBM's own use of Clear Quest by the Hardware division. The reason this is so timely is that increasing electronics companies are seeing software as the catalyst for innovate and product differentiation. Gone are the days when software developers would wait for the latest release of a chip and then determine how to use it; today software frequently drives hardware choices. As a result, companies are recognizing the need for tight coordination and collaboration between the software and hardware engineers and the processes, tools and terminology they use. By having a common set of processes and tools, companies are able codevelop smarter products more efficiently, at a higher quality and lower cost. Speakers: Sreenivasan Rajagopal and Wayne Carrigan.
Executives need portfolios that meet customer needs AND align with business objectives. Engineering needs to deliver mass customization with limited resources. Learn how IBM can help you develop and deliver the right features and products to the right markets at the right time with the convergence of product and portfolio management and product line engineering.

Products today are much more interconnected than they were five years ago. You can use your cell phone to sync up data to your computer. While this sounds impressive the question is how to develop applications without having complete architectural while maintaining reliability, safety, and security. Speaker: Martin Bakal.

Smarter products are the building blocks of a smarter planet, but how do you make smarter products better and faster than your competition? Companies require product and systems development capabilities that can balance the trade-offs between product features, quality, time- to-market and profitability. IBM calls its set of capabilities for building smarter products integrated product management (IPM). Speaker: Steve Shoaf.

Agile software development techniques have taken the industry by storm, with 76 percent of organizations reporting that they had one or more agile projects under way. Agile is becoming widespread because it works organizations are finding that agile project teams, when compared to traditional project teams, enjoy higher success rates, deliver higher quality, have greater levels of stakeholder satisfaction, provide better return on investment (ROI) and deliver systems to market sooner.
