In this special edition of The Assembly Call, Jerod interviews Yogi Ferrell's mom, Dr. Lydia Ferrell, about a variety of topics, including: what she would have said to Yogi if he had gotten the O.W.I.; why she stands so strongly behind Tom Crean; and why she decided to start blogging ... giving IU fans a perspective most fan bases are not lucky enough to get.
What a strange day to be a Hoosier. The fall of metal facing from the ceiling of Assembly Hall caused the postponement of Indiana's game against Iowa. Jerod and Ryan got together for a special edition of The Assembly Call to break down what this narrowly avoided tragedy means in the ongoing renovate/rebuild debate, plus what (if any) impact it will have on the team moving forward. And a lot more.
Once the 2nd half barrage began, the Hoosiers could do nothing to stop it. Like their suspended teammate Hanner Mosquera-Perea, Indiana today appeared guilty of an O.W.I. -- Operating Without Instruction. For those who questioned the direction of the program under Tom Crean following the Penn State collapse, today did nothing to quell the concerns. All of this and more on our latest postgame show.
It's been a weird 48 hours in the world of Indiana basketball. First, Indiana utterly collapses against Penn State -- leading to an apparent referendum on the entire Tom Crean era. Then, today, Hanner Mosquera-Perea was arrested for an OWI. Pretty soon our pets heads will be falling off. Jerod needed to get some thoughts of his chest ... so he does, addressing all of these issues.
The Indiana Hoosiers blew a 54-41 second half lead tonight. At home. To Penn State. Actually, it's worse than that. Indiana was up 61-51 at the under-4:00 timeout. Yet they lost, 66-65. And for the last three minutes of the game tonight, Indiana looked afraid to win. Which is why they didn't. Andy, Ryan, and Jerod do their best to break it all down on this episode of The Assembly Call.
Damn. This one felt there for the taking. Hopefully these young Hoosiers will learn how to win games like this before the current season is over. As we discuss on the postgame show, this loss makes the next two games -- home versus Penn State and at Purdue -- absolute must-wins. If Indiana can get them, this loss will sting a lot worse than it does right now.
On Wednesday, Jerod interviewed Inside The Hall co-founder and editor Alex Bozich about a number of topics, including: Indiana’s current bubble status; Yogi Ferrell’s emergence as one of the Big Ten’s best players; the overall job Tom Crean has done during this up and down season; the future of Noah Vonleh (including an interesting comment that would seem to support Ryan’s belief that Noah will stay two years); and much, much more.
Indiana played its best game of the season today, notching a huge 63-52 home victory over #10 Michigan. Yogi Ferrell is going to get a lion's share of the credit, as he should for a sterling 27-point performance than included a Hullsian 7-8 from downtown. But Tom Crean and his staff also deserve huge kudos for having a great defensive gameplan and for adjusting their lineup strategy mid-game to put this young team in a position to notch a huge, much-needed victory. Jerod and Andy broke it all down, including Noah Vonleh's terrific bounce-back performance, in the latest edition of The Assembly Call.
For a half, it looked like Indiana might be able to get the road win. Even though the Hoosiers had not played particularly well -- leading Jerod to tweet that he had "never felt worse about a 13-point halftime lead" -- a good team should be able to protect a double-digit halftime lead, even on the road. But the 2nd half started and, almost immediately, the bottom fell out. The end result was a 60-55 loss for the Hoosiers. Jerod, Andy, and Ryan broke down this disappointing Indiana loss on the latest episode of The Assembly Call.
What awaits Indiana in Lincoln? Is Noah Vonleh a lock to jump to the NBA? And what is the current state of Hoosier Nation? We discussed these topics and more on a special midweek edition of The Assembly Call.
Jerod, Ryan, and Andy break down the strong defense and rebounding, plus the ugly offense, IU put on display Sunday in beating Illinois to move to 3-4 in the conference.
This was one heck of an effort from your Indiana Hoosiers ... even if it didn't translate into the victory that felt possible midway through the second half. We break down the positives and the negatives that can be taken from tonight's game ... and we analyze the relatively successful return of Jeremy Hollowell.
Though the Hoosiers seemed to have taken a couple steps forward recently, they took a big step back on Saturday afternoon as the Northwestern Wildcats came to town and knocked off IU, 54-47. Jerod and Andy break down this piss-poor performance by the Hoosiers on the latest episode of The Assembly Call.
After struggling under the brightest spotlights so far this season, your Indiana Hoosiers finally picked up a marquee win as Tom Crean took down Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin Badgers for the first time during his time as head coach of IU.
Indiana, teetering on the brink of disaster at 0-2 and with Wisconsin coming to Bloomington on Tuesday, picked up a huge B1G conference road win on Saturday afternoon against the Penn State Nittany Lions. And who would have thought going into the game that Jeff Howard and Austin Etherington would have had a lot to do with it?
