Interview w/ Jeff Washburn: Purdue Basketball | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:45

Listen as ADSD interviews  Purdue Basketball beat writer, legend, Jeff Washburn.  @Coachcowleya and @JeffWashburnJC talk preseason Big 10 Basketball as exhibition games are getting under way.   Jeff's accomplishments are endless within the Boilermaker community.  To learn more about him please click the "read more" for show notes and "play" for the podcast. SEGMENT 1 Austin:   Welcome to ADSD Podcast. Listeners, we are the Attention Deficit Sports Disorder. You are listening to the Austin Drew Sports Disorder Podcast Show.  From college to the pros, we are everything Midwest Sports.  I am your host, Austin Cowley.  Drew Stichter is my partner, he is not with us today….shout out to Drew.  But I am joined on the line with the writer from Journal and Courier (West Lafayette based newspaper), Jeff Washburn.  It is a privilege to have Jeff on the show and take his time to give our followers a breakdown of this Purdue team. We are recording on this Tuesday afternoon….where the Boilers are set to tip-off tonight vs. Bucknell.  Jeff, thanks for coming on the ADSD podcast. Jeff: Respond w/ your hello/greeting. SEGMENT 2 Austin:  Jeff, we don’t waste any time here at ADSD podcast. You know, some podcasts mess around with a long musical entrance and a long conversation at the beginning. We have time to do that before and after the show, but for now, our focus is on bringing Boiler fans the most inside information they can receiver. Jeff, you were at media day, what was the mood like for Coach Painter and Captains DJ Byrd and Terone Johnson Jeff:  Media Day Thoughts/Environment Austin:  Jeff, I really liked your article you wrote on Oct 25th just after that Media Day. You titled it, “Purdue men’s basketball ready to jump into new era.” Painter’s Team Loaded W/ Youth. Great article, Jeff.  Explain to the listeners how maybe one era has ended, and the next one is beginning. Jeff: Baby Boilers à New Boilers (or whatever) Austin:  Hey, Coach Painter had some great quotes in your article in the Journal and Courier. He said, quote, “We didn’t sign stars” (when referring to Landry, Hummel, Johnson, and Moore) He said, “They developed into stars.” And is he right?  Those players weren’t highly recruited high schoolers? Jeff: Respond Austin: Very interesting, I really respected how hard those individuals worked. They invented the best/perfect, two-handed close-outs I have ever seen. So is Coach Painter going to be able to mold this team into future stars? Jeff: Answer Austin: Let’s get into this youth that the Boilermakers have….Ronnie Johnson is the starter at PG. I really like the future of Donnie Hale, who is actually a 3rd year out of H.S., redshirt freshman. But we have three other freshmen that are going to get valuable minutes this season. Which freshman do you see contributing the most? Do any shine above the others? Jeff: Respond Austin: Terone Johnson said at media day that this team needs to be like the 2007-08 team…which featured The Big 3 (Hummel, Johnson, and Moore) as freshman, but had upperclassmen Landy and David Teague (both playing professionally)… How will this team be in this stacked Big10? Jeff: Big 10 Thoughts Austin: The story with this team seems to be what the young, talented, Coach Painter can mold them into…Coach Bo Ryan had some nice things to say about Matt and you included that in your article as well. Can you explain to the listeners the kind of respect that Coach Painter draws from veteran coaches like Bo Ryan at Wisconsin? Jeff: Answer SEGMENT 3 Austin: Well, Jeff, unfortunately it is that time. We thank you for your time. We assume you will be watching the Boilers in action tonight vs. Bucknell. I would be in attendance, but have to get these basketball players in shape for next Monday’s first official practice at IHSAA level. And when you’re at a small high school like me, gym space is always an issue. We have to go late tonight,

Interview w/ Mike DeCourcy: The Sporting News Big10 Basketball | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:43

Mike DeCourcy joins us to kickoff our 2012-13 Big Ten mens basketball season. Mike wrote an article called, "From the Depths, the Big Ten rebounds and again becomes nation's best basketball conference". We talk all things Big10 preseason. The main topic is Big 10 Media day is the main topic. http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-basketball/story/2012-10-25/from-the-depths-big-ten-rebounds-and-again-becomes-nations-best-basketball-confe   SEGMENT 1 Intro: Austin will introduce ADSD. Introduce our Big10 Basketball Research. Michael DeCourcy from the Sporting News is helping us kickoff the big10 basketball season.  Mike Decourcy wrote a great article last Thursday, titled, “FROM THE DEPTHS, BIG TEN REBOUNDS AND AGAIN BECOMES NATION’S BEST BASKETBALL CONFERENCE.” Thanks for being on the show today and WELCOME TO THE ADSD Podcast: Where from college to the pros, we focus all things Midwest sports. Mike: Quick response Austin: From that title, you believe Big10 Basketball will be more dominant and respected around the country than the Big10 Football Conference this season. Mike: Answer SEGMENT 2 Austin: Okay, let’s get right into the meat and potatoes, you were at media day for Big10 basketball. Give us the setting for that day. Where was it? What was the mood in the room? Mike: Answer Austin: In your article from aol.sportingnews.com… all coaches seemed to mention that the parity in the Big10 is going to make the conference strong. Coach Smith, Bo Ryan were a couple you mentioned in your article. Mike: Answer to the parity of big10 Austin: Okay, well preseason rankings does list the teams in order…. In your article, titled, “From the Depths, Big10 Rebounds and again becomes Nation’s best basketball conference”you did mention what teams are ahead of others in rankings. Sporting News rankings has 3 Big10 teams in top 5. (IU, OSU, Michigan). 5 in top 25 (Wisconsin & MSU) and several dark horses (to steal your quote in Minn & Iowa). We haven’t seen rankings like this recently in big10… Mike: Comments about rankings Austin: Tell me, why does Jim Delany, referred to as the big10 czar in your article, why does he spoil all the fun on big10 media day? Mike: Jim Delany thoughts Austin: So, five years ago, you explain in the article from sportingnews.com that the resurrections of IU & Michigan are owed to their newest coaches, Tom Crean and John Beilein. What is it about these two men that turned around these programs? How are they winning the recruiting wars? Mike: Crean and Beilein analysis Austin: Okay, I really like this article, because of the history lesson you give. I, being a high school basketball coach and a history teacher just soaks this stiff up…1990, big10 sent 70% of its teams, 7/10to the NCAA Tournament. Five years ago, big10 was on the verge of mediocrity, only had 4 teams in NCAAs. Now the big10 is back, but the overall message amongst coaches seemed to be that preseason rankings are great, but its what happens when games start that gain respect and prove how good big10 basketball is… Mike: thoughts SEGMENT 3 Austin: Well, Mike, it is that time. Who are you predicting to win this season-long war? Who do you have on top at the end of this season? Mike: Answer… SEGMENT 4 Austin: Hey, its that time already…I had a great time. I know our big10 listeners did too. Thanks so much for joining us. And Mike, ADSD would really like it if we could make this big10 basketball talk a regular show…any chance? Mike: Answer… Austin: Mike, where can our listeners read more of your articles? Mike: Your followers info to track your articles Austin:  Say goodbye Mike Say Goodbye, you can leave if you want Austin: Close the show Upcoming shows Explain adsd Social media

 Big10 Football Show- Week 9 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:54

ADSD brings another edition of your BIG 10 Podcast.   Getting ready for some huge match ups this weekend.  ADSD calls this the best week in B1G action this Saturday. Teams have the opportunity to climb or fall in their respected divisions. Austin tackles this show by himself. Drew is still in the middle of a move. All your feedback is welcome at the ADSD podcast. Click to read full show notes and don't forget you can get all of our podcasts on ITunes here. Austin: Intro Jason: Respond. Let’s get right into this. Segment 2 Austin: Yes, Jason, we are going to talk about Saturday’s Big 10 Contests. I really like this week’s match ups… 2 Noon Games IU @ILLINOIS IOWA@ NW   2 3:30 Games MSU @ WISC PU @MINN   5:30 OSU @ PSU   8:30 MICH@NEB We are going to approach these games in order…starting with the noon games. SEGMENT 3 IU @ILLINOIS Austin: Jason, IU and Illinois is an intriguing match up. Both teams are 2-5 overall and 0-3 in conference … Andy Graham from the Herald Times in Bloomington gives his Hoosier Scoop… QB Cam Coffman is repeating mistakes down the stretch of close games. At the end of the Navy game Coffman rolled to his left and forced a throw that was not there. Navy picked it off and ended the game. This same mistake plagued Coffman down the stretch vs OSU Graham, from the Herald Times, is not writing off Coffman and does believe that the IU coaching staff is making the right call by sticking with him. He does like the potential of the backup Sudfeld, but IU coaches are onto something here and doesn’t want to question their decisions. BOTTOM LINE HERE: Neither backup has had any experience before this season,  but IU is 1ST IN PASSING OFFENSE Coffman is 4th in Big10 = 64% completion rate 33 pass comp. vs MSU is 4th in school history Jason, you have to be pleased with the offense of IU this season, no matter who the QB is….Do you think there’s a need for a QB shift? Tre Robinson will be back next season and the starter. Jason: IU thoughts at QB and offense and coaches…  Either way IU has to come up with a win this Saturday at Illinois. Austin: Okay, we’ve talked IU offense. They;’ll have to stop Illinios offense. Dan Welin from the Daily Illini, the student newspaper on campus in Champagne, Illinois, most recently wrote his article titled, “If Illinios wins, it’s thank to Indiana’s defense” Since Illinois defeated IU Oct 8, 2011 41-20, 3-11. (includes a Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl over UCLA) Since that win vs IU,Illinois gives up 26 pts/game and scores 15 pts/game Dan Welin gives us another negative stat, take away the Charleston Souther non-conference game this season and that number drops to 12 pts/game. Doesn’t bode well vs IU’s high scoring passing attack Scored at least 27 points/game during 5 game losing streak IU’s shoddy defense gives ILLINI a shot IU is only team to allow more points than Illinois & gives up 70 more yards per game than the Illini defense Worse rushing defense. QB Nathan Scheelhaas & Donovan Young will be ready to rack up yards IU has edge w/ more impressive performances vs. top teams. Illini has a favorable upcoming schedule… IU,Purdue,Minnesota, Nothwestern… Jason, is Illinois in a position to earn a bowl bid or will IU end those hopes this week? Jason: Opinion on match up,Illinois defense…..but Austin, this isn’t the only noon game during Saturday’s Big 10 action. Segment 4 Iowa@ NW   Austin: You’re exactly right Jason…Iowa is 2-1 (4-3) in conference, NW is 2-2 (6-2) Randy Peterson writes for HAWK Central powered by the Iowa City Press-Citizen & The Des Moines Register writes…Iowa Football: Advantage-Disadvantage Iowa’s Pass game is low at 172 yards/game in 3 big10 games. 2 total TD’s Northwestern has been allowing big10 foes 265 yards/game, 6 TD’s NW does have 10 sacks in conference. New starting left tackle

I am going to spark this podcast right off the bat with everyone’s opinions on where they feel the Big10 is as a conference compared to rest of nation? 1 min. each. And I will cut you off… Start with Jason: 1 min. Austin: (reply) “Pass to Adam” Adam: (opinion) 1 min. Austin: (reply) “Pass to Dan “ Dan: (opinion) 1 min. Austin: Close Segment 3 Jason, read rundown.. There were 3 noon games, 1 3:30 game, and 1 8:00 game. I am going to run down through the scores and main headlines. Purdue 14 Wisconsin 38 – Another week and another rusher breaks a Big10 record… Last week was Denard Robinson, this week was Montee Ball and the record was Career TD’s. Ball passes former Wisconsin RB Ron Dayne. Dayne had 71 total TD’s. Ball had 69 going into the game. After 247 yards and 3 TD’s, Wisconsin left looking like a team that really could represent the Big10 in the Rose Bowl. They definitely have the upper edge in the Leaders Division by destroying Purdue 38-14. Purdue drops even lower in the Big10 Power Rankings and hopes for a return to bowl contention is dwindling. They now sit 3-3 with a trip to Ohio State this Saturday. Purdue hasn’t found any consistency on offense, converting only 3 3rd downs in the last 2 games. NW 21 Minnesota 13 – The return of Marqueis Gray did not go as planned for the Gophers on Homecoming. NW scored 14 in the first quarter, seven more in the 2nd, and that was all that was needed for the Wildcats to continue their great start to the season. Venric Mark rushed for a career high 182 yards & 2 TD’s. With their 6-1 start, NW is now bowl eligible. QB Marqueis Gray had 9 carries for 86 yards before leaving late in the 3rd with another injury. Minnesota fans are frustrated, because they actually outgained Wildcats and controlled the T.O.P, & held NW to 3 points in 2nd half. but committed 3 turnovers. Iowa 19 Michigan St 16 2OT – In the most entertaining of the noon games, Iowa comes from behind to defeat MSU in 2nd OT. This low scoring juggernaut was 10-3 MSU at halftime & going into 4th quarter. Iowa started the 4th with a field goal, then MSU followed suit by kicking their own field goal at the 7:00 mark, making the score 13-6. Iowa faced a 2nd & 26 on their own 16 yard line, before James Vandenberg found Keenan Davis down the right sideline w/ single coverage for 35 yards. Davis finished with 6 catches for 65 yards. Then later in the same drive, on 3rd & 6 RB Weisman went 37 yards to the MSU 8. Then on the ensuing 3rd down, Weisman powered it into the end zone to tie the game with under 1 minute to play. Weisman broke the 100=-yard mark once again with 116 yards. Le’Veon Bell was the game high rusher at 140 yards. Both teams executed short field goals in the 1st OT. Iowa got it first in the 2nd OT,
