The Blue Mule is and was a popular dance tune in the Missouri Ozarks. Kerry learned it from the late Bob Holt of Ava, Missouri, who was a National Heritage Award winner.

I recorded this yesterday. I play the banjo in two finger Thumb Lead style, and back it up on the guitar. And I sing. But you will notice that I presume. ;)

The first song I ever learned to play in this style. Banjo is tuned f#DGAD. This is part of a whole family of songs that includes Jimmie Rogers' Waiting for a Train.
Original tune I popped out, played on a Will Fielding Rooster banjo, tuned something ilke ebBbFAbC. I'm never sure how to name original tunes, but was just speaking with a friend about some upland game birds, thus it became The Covey.
