From bluesman Julius Daniels--this was one of the songs found on Harry Smith's Anthology of American Music. This version was done by a band I'm in called Corpse Reviver--we mostly focus on the music found on the Anthology. Jillian Rae -- fiddle; Mikkel Beckmen -- percussion; Adam Kiesling -- banjo and voice
From Arkansas fiddler Violet Hensley

For the old-time Tune of the Week, 11/20/15, this version comes from West Virginia fiddler French Carpenter, grandson of Solomon Carpenter who played a tune he called Camp Chase when he was a prisoner-of-war at that location in Ohio during the Civil War. It's said that by playing the tune best Sol actually won his freedom. Check out the TOTW for more info.
Played by Kentucky legendary fiddler Buddy Thomas. Every time I learn one of his tunes I feel like I'm doing extra credit homework for a master's thesis. They're always challenging -- he was a heckuva a fiddler!
A tune learned from the playing of North Carolina fiddler Marcus Martin (1881 - 1974). I hear a sad and serious melody.

As played by North Carolina fiddler Marion Reece (1874 - 1941). I can hear the scolding in the A part very clearly!
Key of G. Tuning is gEADE. TOTW for 23 October 2015.
For the old-time Tune of the Week, 10/23/15, Indian Corn comes from the Dear Old Illinois collection by Garry Harrison. I find it to be a cheerful harvest tune which I first heard played by a favorite fiddler, Rhys Jones.
Performed by Dave Marshall (banjo), Andy Imms (guitar), Keith Chilvers (mandolin)
Learned this version from Adam Hurt. "Sandy River Belle" tuning (gEADE). First recording on my new Enoch Dobson.
Learned from Art Galbraith and Lonnie Robertson, two great Missouri fiddlers and included in R.P. Christeson's book The Old-Time Fiddler's Repertory, Vol. 2, #132. The tune has a long history as a popular song of the late 1800's and is still played today. I prefer the music to the lyrics!
