J. P. Fraley is definitely a favorite fiddler. This waltz he played is quite syncopated, so with clawhammer required lots of skipped notes and the thumb playing pick-up notes. I'm not sure why I never tried learning White Rose Waltz, but am glad it's a Tune of the Week. It's a beauty.

In my excitement in finding another great resource to learn Turlough O'Carolan tunes, I've begun with two from the book and CD compilation by Art Edelstein called Fair Melodies. Both tunes were written in honor of O'Carolan's "patrons", the people who supported him as he traveled through Ireland in the late 1600's and 1700's earning a living as a blind harper. Both tunes are played clawhammer style on a cello banjo.
My banjo arrangement from a song about the loss of our beautiful wilderness areas. Sue Massek has a long performing history in Kentucky with her band Reel World String Band. She plays banjo, though I arranged from the fiddle and the vocals.

Banjo - aEAde
Banjo solo version in aEAde. An arrangement a bit shorter than the entire song, once through.

A song recorded in the 20's with wholesome lyrics. I'm playing the words as sung by the duet Burnett and Rutherford. It also goes along with the singing in the key of C on a recording by Clyde Davenport, one of my favorite old-time musicians. Check out the Tune of the Week for more.

At last a tune from Ohio! Before this Tune of the Week I hadn't heard of the Field Recorders Collective CD called "Along the Ohio's Shores." It must be a good one, if this tune is a typical sample.
With my Primrose Ome banjo - accompanying my friend Alan who is playing guitar and singing - 2022.
