Tunaday #371 - In D variant tuning (aDACD).
Played on a Mike Dawson fretless banjo with nylon strings.
For the old-time Tune of the Week, 6/28/19, Kentucky fiddler Clyde Davenport (still alive and able to play in his 90's) played the banjo for a tune his father, Will, taught him. The source I found for Will Davenport's Tune (actually the title isn't known) is in an excellent DVD called Shades of Clyde. The key is F in the unusual tuning of fFGCD. I don't find many tunes hypnotic, but this one qualifies.
played on new walnut and maple 11" open back in double C tuning
Quick recording to remind me of the tune in the future.
Sample of the Four Corners banjo, Open C tuning. Based on Josh Turknett's arrangement.
Trader Boatman
Tunaday #271 = Tuning is g#(BEBE) - known as Dead Man's" E-tuning.
Here's a bit of an Earl Scruggs classic for the old-time Tune of the Week, 6/16/19. I've always thought it's fine to play in clawhammer style whatever suits me, though others may differ in opinion. The Dm tuning (aDFAD) gives this tune flavor and then it jumps suddenly to a major chord. Great composition!
Thanks Brainjo!
Forked Deer
Kiss Me Quick, My Papa's A Comin' comes from the playing of Sammy Walker of Kentucky.
Cripple Creek. Me playing the banjo. Me also playing percussion. I just wanted to find out if it would work or not. I'm not dissatisfied, but I think that the percussion might be a bit too loud. I'll probably try experimenting with this again in the future.
Tune for a Found Harmonium (TOTW)
Tunaday #165 - In G/D tuning (gDGAD).
