From the playing of Dwight Diller for the old-time Tune of the Week, 3/25/16. The tension of the tune from G to F chordal sounds reminds me of muddy roads, indeed. I don't like them at all, but I like the tune!
New Five Cents
Good Ol' St. Paddy's Day always gets us to pull out the Irish tunes ... I'm getting better at making recordings lately ... (I was getting background buzz in the usb mic I had bought .) I'm doing plenty of 2-finger rolls and some thumb-pick work on this one
CH take on a 4 part Scottish pipe jig written by Donald Macleod. G tuning but low.
For the old-time Tune of the Week, 3/18/16 this tune was a new one for me. I listened to a lovely guitar arrangement by Ken Perlman and simplified it for clawhammering. Kids would like to swing on a gate, wouldn't they. Parents would tell them to get off, but it must be too fun to resist
I'm revisiting this song. It sure is fun to play and sing. I'm not making any effort for proper 1840s styling on it.

Clawhammer tune of the week example - 031816
Tune of the Week.
After hearing Matt Malloy of the Chieftains, Dave Hum, and finally Don Huber, I got inspired to learn this tune and some of its variations, just in time for Saint Patrick's Day.
An emotionally charge title with a melody to match.
Ramsey Tubaphone with heavily damped bridge
The old-time Tune of the Week for 3/11/16 is Black Jack Grove as recorded by the Lomax's in 1939, played by Texas fiddler Lake N. Porter. The other Black Jack Grove comes from Kentucky fiddler Walter McNew. I play them both here for comparison's sake, which worked out since I arranged them both in open G tuning.
Garry Harrison
Recorded by most every blues artist, but rarely on old-time banjo.
