Really happy with the rhythm of this one. Joe Derrane's jig in aDADE tuning on clawhammer.
I had a thanksgiving jam and George Flink on 6 string and John Walkenbach on guitar came over. This was the highlight. I thought I was friends with George, but I couldn't find him. That's him on the 6 string banjo.
For the old-time Tune of the Week, 12/2/16, from the playing of Virginia fiddler Taylor Kimble (1892 - 1979). I wouldn't know much at all about this kind of corn, so I'm sure this version won't "set your head on fire," as the lyrics said.

From my "Carry On John" cd - named for the Riverhouse Motorlodge in Gatlinburg, TN. Strings arranged and played by Jim Wood.
SNOWDROP
Nothing flashy. Just a simple folk song I wrote a few years ago. Recorded on my Bart Reiter Round Peak in an abandoned homestead somewhere near Grand Junction, CO. The album this song is on, "Giving My Bones to the Western Lands" can be found at slackeyeslim.bandcamp.com for free.
For the old-time Tune of the Week, 11/26/16, this old minstrel tune comes from Thomas F. Briggs' Banjo Instructor of 1855. I'm playing on a Gold Tone cello banjo in order to play in the key of G, but tuned down a fifth to put it in the key of D. It's Thanksgiving weekend and, though we didn't "kick up the devil," we had a very pleasant holiday. Hope you did, too.

"Liquor Seller", played by Bob Lanham on a Vega Tubaphone banjo. Source: Roscoe Parish was recorded playing this on both fiddle and banjo.
CH take on a traditional 3 part dance tune in 6/8 time from Galicia, an autonomous region of Spain. Wildwood. D tuning.
For the old time Tune of the Week, 11/18/16, Puncheon Floor (or Puncheon on the Floor) comes from the fiddling of Esker Hutchins of North Carolina. A puncheon floor was made from split logs finished on one side. This upbeat tune modulates from G to D. Rather than play it in open G I tried it in Cumberland Gap tuning (gEADE). Check out the TOTW for more info.
RIP
Clawhammer, tuned gCGCD with a brass pick. Inspired by Tom Berghan's version, whose wonderful playing is a distant goal to which I can only aspire. I like to think that the change of tempo between the A and B parts is deliberate, rather than because it's so much harder to run up and down the neck :-)
A little psychedelic banjo...
