Tearful, Grieving, Mother Delivers Obama's Weekly Address | File Type: video/vnd.objectvideo | Duration: Unknown

You can't watch this without tearing up. You can see the gut-wrenching emotions on Francine Wheeler's face as she talks about her six-year-old son Ben who was gunned down at Sandy Hook Elementary. She delivers President Obama's weekly address with a plea to Congress to pass gun responsibility laws. About this address, the White House writes: This week's Presidential address is delivered by Francine Wheeler, whose six year old son, Ben, was murdered alongside nineteen other children and six educators in Newtown, Connecticut, four months ago. Now, Francine -- joined by her husband David -- is asking the American people to help prevent this type of tragedy from happening to more families like hers. Since that terrible day in December, thousands more Americans have died, and thousands more families have suffered the pain of losing a loved one to violence. Now that the Senate has agreed that commonsense gun safety reforms deserve a vote, she says they must finish the job and pass those reforms to protect our children and our communities. She says now is the time for all Americans to help make this a moment of real change.

World’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm is now Connected to U.K.’s Grid | File Type: video/quicktime | Duration: Unknown

World’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm is now Connected to U.K.’s Grid All 175 of London Array’s turbines are now exporting power to the U.K. grid. The 630-megawatt facility off southeast England is the world's largest operating wind farm at sea and is estimated to generate enough electricity for almost half a million homes a year. London Array is about 20 kilometers off the coasts of Essex and Kent. The owners are considering an expansion of the site to raise capacity to 870 megawatts. Britain, the biggest market for marine wind farms, is working to further reduce the cost of the technology as the country aims to get 30 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by the end of the decade, up from almost 12 percent now. http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2013/04/eon-dong-connect-worlds-largest-offshore-wind-farm-to-u-k-grid?cmpid=rss Vestas Showing Signs of a Strong Recovery For the past two years, Vestas Wind Systems has struggled as the oversupply of wind turbines on the market forced turbine prices to dramatically drop. Last year the company announced it was cutting more than 3,000 jobs in order to try to stay afloat. However, recent announcements made by Vestas signal a big turnaround. The company announced that it has secured “a firm and conditional order” from Canadian developers EDF EN Canada and Enbridge for 166 of its 1.8-MW turbines. In other news, Vestas has also announced that it is shipping three new turbine lines to be used in Denmark’s Noerhede Hjortmose project. Once completed, it will be the largest onshore wind power plant in Denmark. http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2013/04/vestas-wind-power-showing-signs-of-a-strong-recovery?cmpid=rss Mosaic Obtains $100M Approval for California Solar Investments Mosaic Inc., a solar project finance company based in California, believes that the fastest way to get to 100% clean energy is to allow more people to participate in building the clean energy economy. The company has just been approved to offer $100 million in solar investments to residents of California. One of their main goals is to make it possible for anyone to invest as little as $25 in financing solar energy projects all over the country. Mosaic supplies capital to developers at a 5.5% interest rate, takes a 1% fee, and investors can expect a full return of their investment in less than ten years. http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/blog/post/2013/04/solar-energy-for-and-by-the-people-mosaic-gets-100m-approval-for-california-investments?cmpid=rss Wind Turbine Contention in Falmouth Focuses the Negative Impacts of Poorly Sited Turbines According to Wind Wise-Massachusetts, a leading environmental advocacy group, the battle over the fate of two industrial wind turbines in Falmouth puts the spotlight on the negative effects of poorly sited wind turbines throughout Massachusetts. At a special town meeting in Falmouth on April 9, residents will be asked for approval to borrow money to dismantle two wind turbines. If approved, Falmouth will become the first town in America to tear down industrial wind turbines for health reasons. Several complaints have been filed with health boards, police departments, and state agencies regarding the noise and vibration from these wind turbines. http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/wind-turbine-battle-in-falmouth-just-tip-of-the-iceberg-201998501.html

London: Music under the shadow of Handel - Professor Christopher Hogwood CBE | File Type: video/vnd.objectvideo | Duration: Unknown

Music by Boyce, Arne and Geminiani. To be performed by a Royal Academy of Music historical performance ensemble. This is a part of the series of lectures and concerts, European Capitals of Music. Famous musical capitals provide the framework for this series of lectures with live music. The first three concentrate not only on 19th century Vienna, but on Schubert in Vienna and writing chamber music. Why did this music happen then, where was it played, who provoked, preformed and paid for it. And was it considered successful? The final three ask similar questions of other capital cities: 20th century chamber music in Paris, baroque music in London under the shadow of Handel, and virtuoso violin playing in Rome focused on Corelli, the 300th anniversary of whose death is being celebrated this season. The works in each programme are played by present members of the Royal Academy of Music. All our lectures are available for free download from the Gresham College website, in video, audio or text formats: http://www.gresham.ac.uk Gresham College professors and guest speakers have been giving free public lectures in central London since 1597.  Breakthrough in Hydro Fuel Generation Could Revolutionize Alternative Energy Market | File Type: video/quicktime | Duration: Unknown

Breakthrough in Hydro Fuel Generation Could Revolutionize Alternative Energy Market Y.H. Percival Zhang and his team from Virginia Tech have succeeded in using xylose, the most abundant simple plant sugar, to produce a large quantity of hydrogen from any plant - a discovery that has the potential to bring a low-cost, environmentally friendly fuel source to the world. This new environmentally friendly method of producing hydrogen utilizes renewable natural resources, releases almost no greenhouse gasses, and does not require costly metals. Other experts say that the process could find its way to the marketplace in as quickly as three years if the technology is available. http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2013/04/breakthrough-in-hydrogen-fuel-production-could-revolutionize-alternative-energy-market?cmpid=rss Arkansas Nuclear One’s Unit 2 for Restart Entergy officials are drawing-up plans to restart Arkansas Nuclear One's Unit 2, a process estimated to take several weeks. The unit has been out of commission since Sunday when it shut down automatically after a 550-ton generator stator fell as it was being moved out of the turbine building. The accident resulted in the fatality of one worker and injuries to eight others. Both Unit 1 and Unit 2 currently remain in a stable, shutdown condition. http://www.entergy.com/News_Room/newsrelease.aspx?NR_ID=2698 CPUC’s Self-Generation Incentive Program The California Public Utilities Commission’s Incentive Program will render incentives to support existing, new, and developing distributed energy resources. The Self Generation Incentive Program gives rebates to qualified energy systems installed on the customer’s side of the utility meter. Qualified technologies include gas and wind turbines, , pressure reduction turbines and internal combustion engines, micro-turbines, waste heat to power systems, fuel cells and . http://www.cpuc.ca.gov/PUC/energy/DistGen/sgip/index.htm Improvements at NREL’s Wind Center to Harness More Power from Low Speed Wind Researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory are pushing for a more sustainable energy future by leading the way in testing the most advanced wind turbine technologies and preparing them for future deployment. NREL entered into a partnership with Alstom, a French power-generation company, when its ECO 100 wind turbine was installed for certification testing. The turbines were recently updated to test a new, state-of-the-art blade design. The change converted the ECO 100 turbine into an ECO 110 turbine with a huge 110-meter rotor diameter, making it the largest and most powerful wind turbine currently on the NWTC site. The new blade configuration is specifically designed to operate efficiently at lower wind speeds to allow greater power generation at lower speeds. http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2013/04/change-is-in-the-air-at-nrels-wind-center?cmpid=rss
