The Andrew Dixon Foundation is to develop self- esteem and motivate youth through the eyes of baseball. The past 3 years has been developing baseball throughout Jamaica primary schools, certifying and teaching . Along with the annual back to school and Christmas projects give-a-ways. It has been brought to my attention that one of the rural primary schools St. Elizabeth "St. Mary's primary school" is without proper bathroom facilities. We have agreed to take on this project to build two bathroom facilities for this school, which we are seeking support and donations to help complete this project. The cost of this project is estimated at $20,000.00 US and our portion is $10,000.00 half of the cost. The Jamaican government is willing to assist us with the remaining balance. The families of the students who attends the school will be assisting by contributing labor and other help as well. The bathrooms will consist of 4 commodes for the girls, 3 commodes for the boys with 3 urinals, 2 sinks will be provided in both along with the basic doors. We will provide photos of the existing bathrooms with current conditions students has endured for the past years. We kindly thank you in advance for your assistance and all donation proceeds. LIVE MUSIC :Jamaican Mento and Folk Songs Before Reggae  Mento is a style of Jamaican music that predates and has greatly influenced ska and reggae music. Mento typically features acoustic instruments, such as acoustic guitar, banjo, hand drums, and the rhumba box a large mbira in the shape of a box that can be sat on while played. The rhumba box carries the bass part of the music. Lord Flea and Count Lasher are two of the more successful mento artists.Mento is often confused with calypso, a musical form from Trinidad and Tobago. Major figures in the early sound system scene included Duke Reid, Prince Buster and Clement "Coxsone" Dodd. In 1958, due to a shortage of new material, the first local rhythm and blues bands, most influentially the duo Higgs and Wilson (Joe Higgs and Roy Wilson), began recording to fulfil the local demand for new music. Ska is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s, and was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae. Ska combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. The first ever ska recording was made by Count Ossie, a Nyabhingi drummer from the rasta community. It is characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the upbeat. What is the importance Black culture and the Black experience in continuing revolutionary attitudes and tactics? With the rise in continued institutional racism and marginalization of African-Americans and the reversal of many of the strides we made during  the Black Civil Rights movement, we find ourselves without the strength to nuture and raise future revoultuoinaries that will continue the struggle. With the obliteration of affirmative action, the voting right act challenges, deleting ethnic studies in the colleges and university systems in California where the Black Panther Party and the black power movement cut its teeth, where are we headed? Along with the loss many of the pioneers of the black power movement... I asked myself; where are all our black revolutionaries?   Join in on the discussion Friday night @ 6pm.
