My guest on Monday the 11th of February is the brilliant science writer Gary Taubes. I read an article he wrote many years ago called, "What if It's All Been a Big Fat Lie?". The article set the cat amongst the pigeons as it questioned the effectiveness and benefits of low-fat diets. Gary believes that many medical communities and governments have relied upon misinterpreted scientific data on nutrition to build guidelines and frameworks for healthful eating. On my show this week I have journalist John Nicholson who is the author of book The Meat Fix. For 26 years John Nicholson was a vegetarian, following a seriously healthy diet that included no cholesterol or animal fats but plenty of brown rice and lentils. However, for 26 years John Nicholson was ill with untreatable IBS. He was eating the healthiest diet known to mankind yet his digestive system was breaking down. His illness was affecting his life so badly that eventually he and his partner considered doing the unthinkable - eating meat. The results were spectacular. 24 hours after eating meat, he was better.
