WE'VE GOT the fire, we've got the wood, and we've got the Lamb! This week, we continue in the book of Genesis with the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the departure of Hagar and Ishmael, Abraham's sojourn in the land of the Philistines, and the test of Abraham on Mount Moriah. We also dig a little deeper into the nature of the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah. Was it simply inhospitality, as some suggest? We think not. The epistle of Jude is clear; Sodom and Gomorrah, like the angels of Genesis 6, were punished for sexual sin--possibly something more than homosexuality, which has existed in all cultures and for thousands of years. Is it possible that the men of Sodom knew that Lot's guests were angels, and that they hoped, through forbidden practices, to somehow obtain divine favors?

THE TITLE of this week’s show is a reference to a wonderful exchange between a clothing designer and a host on the QVC shopping channel about whether the Moon is a planet or a star. Of course, it’s neither, but it led to a discussion of a panic 60 years ago when the U.S. government frantically searched for two “natural” satellites that appeared on radar, orbiting the equator at 400 miles and 600 miles above the Earth. We believe the UFO phenomenon is real, but it’s not what UFO true believers think it is. IT WILL probably surprise you to learn that apostles and prophets with all the power and authority of their biblical forebears walk the Earth today--or so they would like you to believe.  Holly Pivec discusses a pair of new books she's co-authored with Dr. R. Douglas Geivett, God’s Super-Apostles and A New Apostolic Reformation?

OUR STUDY of the Bible continues as we conclude the Book of Job this morning. Talk about your big finish — Yahweh Himself appears to rebuke Job and his three friends, and we get a fascinating description of two creatures usually identified by commentators as the hippopotamus and the crocodile. However, the descriptions of Behemoth and Leviathan do not adequately fit hippos and crocs. Behemoth, with its tail like a cedar tree, sounds more like a sauropod than anything else. And Leviathan, “king over all the sons of pride”, is more likely, in our view, none other than Helel ben Shachar, “that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world”. After Yahweh makes clear to Job that it is not the place of humans to question His ways, Job repents and is forgiven. Yahweh then commands the three friends of Job to offer sacrifices and to ask Job to pray on their behalf. The story of Job concludes with his fortunes not only restored but magnified by Yahweh, and Job lives out his days in peace and surrounded by his family. Here is a link to E.W. Bullinger’s 1893 book The Witness of the Stars, which you can read for free online. Note: Many Christian scholars today point out that the scholarship on which the Gospel in the Stars is based was faulty and warn against searching for messages in the stars. Since the time of Babylon, the Enemy has popularized the idea of seeking information about the future through astrology, which God forbids (See Deut. 18:10).

THE MATTER of Christmas has become rather contentious in recent years. It needn’t be. While Jesus almost certainly was not born on December 25 (see this video by Dr. Michael Heiser making the case for September 11, 3 B.C.), Christians should not be concerned about accidentally worshiping a pagan deity if they celebrate the birth of the Messiah on Christmas Day. In brief: There is no scholarly evidence linking December 25 to the birth or worship of Nimrod and/or Tammuz Christmas is not modified Saturnalia Evidence suggests that a feast for the birth of Christ was celebrated in Egypt prior to 200 A.D. Some Christians celebrated the birth of Jesus on December 25 decades before Aurelian chose the date as the birth of Sol Invictus in 274 Christians of the 4th century did not acknowledge a pagan origin for the celebration of Christmas (the idea did not appear in Christian writings until the 12th century) December 25th may have been chosen because it was nine months after March 25th, the Feast of the Annunciation celebrating the conception of Jesus Here is the takeaway: Those who choose to celebrate Christmas and those who are restrained by their conscience from celebrating the day are correct.  See Romans 14: One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. (Romans 14:5-6 ESV) Be satisfied in your own mind. If you keep the holiday, or if you do not, then do it for the Lord and may He richly bless you and your family.

We continue our study of the Book of Job beginning with chapter 32.  Job's friends, Eliphaz, Zophar, and Bildad have run out of things to say, Job has exhausted his defense, and so today we meet a new character in this drama. Elihu, a young man who has apparently been watching and listening to his elders as they debate the reasons for Job's trials, launches into a monologue about the nature of God and Job's error in declaring himself righteous.  All this sets up the appearance of Yahweh Himself. As Sharon will be away playing a role in a childrens’ Christmas play at church, Josh Peck, host of The Sharpening and author of Quantum Creation, joins us to help us in our study.  We appreciate his heart, mind, and joyful spirit, and we thank him for being willing and able to assist. WE ARE told in Matthew 25 that when Jesus returns,  he will judge the nations, separating people one from another into sheep and goats according to how they have treated the “least of these, my brothers”. What does that mean? When Jesus returns for the final judgment, presumably Christians will already have been taken off the Earth. So who is judged? Who are Christ’s brothers? And what if Jesus actually meant he was judging entire nations? Daniel Duval, Executive Director of BRIDE Ministries, is the author of the new book Kingdom Government and the Promise of Sheep Nations. He discusses what a “sheep nation” might look like, who might live there, and also gets into a fascinating side discussion about water spirits and why they seem to have so much influence.
