Keyboardist, organist, composer and performer Marco Benevento was in town recently in support of his new album of mostly intrumentals called Tiger Face. He was happy to perform on our Steinway Grand piano even though it didn’t have guitar pedals on it. He explains that in our interview.
Local musician Joel Henderson has a new band called The 40 Gallon Baptists. He explains the name and plays a new song for us before his gig Friday, Sept. 21 at Uncle Slaytons. Also, making their debut on fpk was the roots band Blunt Honey. They too share the bill with Joel.
Before his great show last night at the final Waterfront Wednesday, Dave and band member Josh Brown stopped by WFPK for a fews songs and a chat. I still have my doubts about that undeware comment!
L.A. rockers Everest performed the perfect set to cap off our 2012 Waterfront Wednesday concert season. Their new album Ownerless on ATO records is excellent. Russ Pollard and company gave us a nice acoustic set in the studio too.
Queen of The Blues Shemekia Copeland won over Louisville last night at our final Waterfront Wednesday of the season. She has earned the coveted title of “Queen” from the late Koko Taylor for a reason: the girl can sing like nobody’s business and she’s a great performer too. Plus, she cares deeply about the Blues as [...]
This is the 2nd of 3 parts. You can find part one here, and stay tuned for a third, separately recorded interview with just Aimee Mann regarding her new LP. Yes, you read that title correctly. Yes, you read that title correctly. Three of music’s greatest songwriters all sat down in our studio to talk, discuss, debate, relate, laugh, cuss, decide, and kill some time on a Friday morning. Along with John Doe and Loudon Wainwright III, the trio are currently in Louisville filming a movie called Pleased To [...]
Powerhouse vocalist and former Louisvillian (who is now in Nashville) Etta Britt always wanted to be a backup singer. She has sung with everyone from Englebert Humperdinck to Waylon Jennings. She now has her own album and is signed to a new label. She’s got a great story which she shared with us here.
North Carolina puts out some great music such as The Avett Brothers, Ryan Adams, Carolina Chocolate Drops and also Tift Merritt who was here in our studio in support of her new album Traveling Alone and for our August Waterfront Wednesday.
Piano pop rock might best describe the Brooklyn based band Jukebox The Ghost who were here recently for our August Waterfront Wednesday concert. Ben Thornewill is from Louisville so we of course had to ask him “what high school did you go to?” Oh yeah, they played some awesome music too!
