To Speak Dutch Podcast

Learning a new lanquage ain't easy, and a lot of people have problems with grammar. In this episode I will show you how to use the correct form of a Dutch verb. Of course there is to little time to teach you all the verbs righ now, but this podcast episode is a mayor step. Please let me know if there are any questions. Shownotes: - First find the stem of the verb. - If you want to make a sentence with "ik" (I) you use this stem. - If your subject is singular, you use the stem plus the letter t. - If your subject is plural, you use the whole verb Example To say - zeggen stem = zeg Singular: I say - ik zeg he says - hij zegt Plural: we say - we zeggen they say - zij zeggen Dutch practice: ik zeg - I say jij zegt - you say zij zegt - she says wij zeggen - we say jullie zeggen - you say zij zeggen - they say

After asking directions to your hotel, hostel or the city center, I think it will be handy if you can understand the answers. In this episode I will teach you the answers that someove can give to you. Suprise, suprise. The verb of this week is To Have. Of course I have already said this two weeks ago. We use to have in more meanings tan to own something. We also use it for example as an part of the English verb to need. In Dutch this will become "nodig hebben" Please don't think about that yet and start learning te verb hebben.   Shownotes: I have - ik heb you have (singular) - jij hebt or - u hebt or - u heeft he/she/it has - hij/zij/het heeft we have - we/wij hebben you have (plural) - jullie hebben they have - zij hebben sentences: Ik heb drie babies Ik ben een man ik ben 40 jaar oud ik heb een vrouw You can see that "u bent" en "u heeft" are used in this episode. You can use both for the same occasion. Just choose one you like the most.

As I may have already noted, the verb zijn (to be) is very important in the Dutch language. I believe the present tense wil be sufficient for now because we need to make a start of producing your own sentences. One of the most basic things of a language is counting. The one problem I have when I try to listen to a language, where I am not quite familliar with, is to quickly understand the numbers spoken in a complete sentence. I think it is just a manner of get used to these numbers. If you use them more and more, the easier it will get. Have fun counting!
