Despite Haman's death, Esther and Mordecai still have work to do, as Haman's decree that all Jews are to be annihilated from the land still remains. Esther's compassion for her people drives her to plead for them before the King and points us to Jesus's compassionate intercession on our behalf.

Sin entails sowing and reaping. We can control our actions, but not the consequences. God's work is independent of our faithfulness. When we face death, our only comfort is to be connected to the One who has defeated death.

A prideful Haman, despite all of his prosperity, is overcome with rage because there is one in the kingdom that refuses to acknowledge his greatness: Mordecai. Just like Haman's pride becomes his demise, our own prideful behavior can destroy relationships and reveal something inside of us that is broken. As Christians, we are called to humble ourselves, and by doing so, He will exalt us in His time and in His way.

As the new edict seems to spell out imminent death for the Jewish people, God appears to be starkly absent in Babylon. Yet, as Esther and Mordecai face the unraveling of their security and comfort, the gaping hole that remains illuminates God’s sovereignty and power. It is in the darkness that Esther and Mordecai begin to see that true safety and status cannot ever be found in earthly things.

Esther and Mordecai, secretly Jews, are powerful and comfortable in the Persian empire until Haman is given a place above them. When Mordecai refuses homage to Haman and reveals himself as a Jew, an enraged Haman convinces King Xerxes to decree that all Jews throughout Persia be killed.
We continue in our series on Esther by being introduced to Esther and how she was sovereignly enabled to ascend in the court of King Xerxes. And in it all we learn that God is at work.

In the introduction to the book of Esther, Matt highlights the transcendence of God's sovereignty in the seeming randomness of human existence. When life seems to make no sense, we should seek to trust God and His divine plan.
God’s design for all marriages is that they would be a grand adventure, working toward a shared purpose worthy of the entire lives of each spouse. The challenge for spouses is to discover what this will look like for their own marriage. What is the adventure that God is calling us to go on?
