This week's show features new music by Andy Prieboy (http://andyprieboy.com/) and The Little Girls (http://www.myspace.com/caronmurray), with classic alternative tracks from Dave and the Dynamos, Josie Cotton (http://josiecotton.com/), Mental As Anything (http://www.mentals.com.au/), Strawberry Switchblade (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Strawberry+Switchblade&x=7&y=15), ABC (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=ABC&x=18&y=17) and more. (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/questionable_image-287x300.jpg) Andy Prieboy recently released two new songs, "Higher Ground" and "Who I Am" to complete his most current collection, The Questionable Profits of Pure Novelty -- which includes the singles he put out in late 2008 and early 2009. They are available on Prieboy's official website (http://andyprieboy.com/songs.php). We play the track "Suzy Clone" from The Little Girls' 2009 CD, Today... and Yesterday (http://www.amazon.com/Today-and-Yesterday/dp/B002U1KV8I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1273975180&sr=1-3-spell). A special note on the track is that it was written in the very early days of the band, but until now it was never recorded. We also want to say "Happy Birthday" to Josie Cotton (May 15th), who will soon release a new album, Pussycat Babylon (http://josiecotton.com/). We play a double-shot of Cotton's music in hour 1. Also, my longtime friend Rich celebrated his 40th birthday on May 14th -- just days after calling me an old man as I turned 41. I play a very appropriate song to commemorate his milestone called "Life Begins at 40" by a the New Zealanders Dave and the Dynamos. They made a quite funny video for it as well:

The Podcast Edit For Our 5/7 Show With Paul Collins Is Up - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:18

(http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Paul_Collinspromo-223x300.jpg) Our Revenge of the 80s Radio podcast edit is up and available at the bottom of this post. This week, Paul Collins (http://www.paulcollinsbeat.com/homepage.html) of The Beat and Co-Founder of The Nerves talks with me about his career, thoughts on music, the continued strength and loyal fanbase of the power pop genre and his soon-to-be-released new album: The King of Power Pop. Our conversation leads off the second hour of the show. After living around the world and studying music at Julliard, Collins teamed up with Peter Case (http://www.petercase.com/) and Jack Lee to form The Nerves, which released a self-titled EP in 1976 that featured the track "Hanging on the Telephone," which would be a 1978 smash for Blondie. Collins and Case later formed a short-lived, but critically-acclaimed band called The Breakaways (http://www.notlame.com/JANUARY_-_New_CDs/THE_BREAKAWAYS/Page_1/CDBREAKAWAYS1.html), but never released an album under that name. As Case went on to form The Plimsouls (http://www.amazon.com/Live-Beg-Borrow-Steal-October/dp/B0031RA2K2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273340381&sr=8-1), Collins found success after founding The Beat, a band that remains strong under his leadership today. (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/paul_collins_the_beat_small.jpg) During our interview, Collins and I talk discuss: * Collins' musical background and how he and The Nerves developed their sound. * The place the Nerves and The Beat have in LA New Wave history * The power-pop genre and why its following continues to grow and appeal to more than one generation of fans * Paul's thoughts on some of the power-pop alt-rockers of today * His upcoming her album, The King of Power Pop. Nikki Corvette (http://www.myspace.com/nikkiandthecorvettes) is one of the guest musicians being featured with Collins on his new album. Collins is also the Supreme Commander of The Beat Army (http://www.facebook.com/pages/THE-BEAT-ARMY/346148489520), a social network dedicated to the preservation of power pop and the promotion of bands and radio shows that play the music. Collins; place in music history, his influence and the amazing things he does with a few chords makes him the undisputed King and Heavyweight Champion of Power Pop. In this week's show, we also play classic alternative music by Stan Ridgway (http://www.amazon.com/Silly-Songs-Ridgway-Pietra-Wexstun/dp/B0028R3FZU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273340462&sr=1-3), Rikki St. James (http://www.myspace.com/rikkistjames), Nikki and The Corvettes (http://www.amazon.com/Nikki-Corvettes/dp/B00004SZGD/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273340600&sr=1-1), XTC (http://www.amazon.com/Skylarking-XTC/dp/B00005ATHO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1273340619&sr=1-1), General Public (http://www.amazon.com/General-Public/e/B000APYU7E/ref=sr_tc_2_0?qid=1273340645&sr=1-2-ent) and more.

Our 4/16 Show Podcast Is Up – With Cowboy Junkies Bassist Alan Anton - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 54:00

(http://images.uulyrics.com/cover/c/cowboy-junkies/album-the-trinity-session.jpg) The podcast edit for this week's Revenge of the 80s Radio is up and available at the bottom of this post. This week, as the band is touring the U.S., Cowboy Junkies (http://latentrecordings.com/cowboyjunkies/) bassist and founding member Alan Anton chats with me in the second hour. We discuss the band's origins dating back from grade school days, some of their classic music, new projects, touring and some hockey. The Cowboy Junkies might be best described as a Canadian version of Americana music with a hint of mellow jazz and some blues. They burst on the American alt-rock scene with the 1988 album The Trinity Session, which was recorded on a very small budget with one microphone at the landmark Church of the Holy Trinity in downtown Toronto. Their cover of "Sweet Jane" received a lot of airplay on college radio and MTV's alternative music shows. The album also featured an interesting cover of Patsy Cline's "Walking After Midnight" and a part-original/part-cover of "Blue Moon." During our conversation, Anton discusses his thoughts on the band's style of music, performing, the Cowboy Junkies' approach to touring, a history of the band and some upcoming projects. Fans in the NY-Metro area can see them on various dates in the next few weeks, including a show at the legendary Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (http://www.bethelwoodscenter.org/) on May 8th. Full tour information can be found on the Cowboy Junkies' website (http://latentrecordings.com/cowboyjunkies/tour/). We also played classic alternative tracks from artists including The Clash (http://www.amazon.com/London-Calling-Clash/dp/B00004BZ0N/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1271695660&sr=8-1), The Communards (http://www.amazon.com/Platinum-Collection-Communards/dp/B000EIEJFA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1271695689&sr=1-2), Devo (http://www.amazon.com/Are-Devo-Deluxe-Remastered-Version/dp/B002RBNNS6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1271695713&sr=1-1) and The Damned (http://www.amazon.com/Black-Album-Deluxe-Version/dp/B000BPN2CM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1271695734&sr=1-2).
