#1- Today we discuss another of the many media lists proposing the so called, most dangerous cities in the world. Once again most all of the cities are located in Latin America. Lets go through the list and check it out... #2-Venezuela is the only country in Latin America where the general population is getting skinnier, more physically fit (and angrier) by the week. These days even the have-not Cubans are starting to fill out a bit. But meanwhile, Venezuelan govt slugs keep getting fatter and more abusive as we will see with today’s “boots on the ground” story direct from Caracas. #3-Counterfeit dough in Latin America. Yep, it’s out there alright and you’re sure to get some. Should you be worried? #4-Every average young Latina lady has a basic wish list and today we’ll discuss Latin ladies and their worldly desires. We all know the old saying “be careful what you wish for”. Well fortunately that warning doesn’t necessarily apply here since most Latinas only want what a normal person really deserves in life. Generally their wants are simple and they’re not greedy. #5- The strange and wonderful world of descriptively crude Spanish slang #6- MY NEXT EXPAT “INSIDER” SEMINAR will be Saturday July 8th thru Thursday July 13th 2017 in and around Guatemala, Central America. #1- Today we discuss how expats get drug prescriptions from Latin doctors and what happens when visiting a Latin pharmacy #2-Most all prescription medicines are available in Latin America. But due to low demand for some of the rarer medicines that first world people are on (and addicted to), there might be only the proprietary brands available from the original manufacturer at your local Latin pharmacy. In that case the medicine you seek will not be 3rd world cheap but first world expensive. So we discuss some of the proven ways expats get very low cost medicines, vitamins and supplements shipped to their Latin American locations using well-known first-world online pharmacies #3-A report on how the Ecuador govt continues to pass ever more draconian monetary restrictions, obviously directed toward gringos and expats living there. As of 2016 you must pay a 5% tax on all monies, assets and expenditures made out of the country exceeding $1000 usd, and it gets worse... #5- MY NEXT EXPAT “INSIDER” SEMINAR will be Saturday July 8th thru Thursday July 13th 2017 in and around Guatemala, Central America. #1- Starting an internet based business in Latin America. #2-Almost everything you want and need to know about the use of LP and propane gas in your Latin home or business. It seems strange to us that almost all but the poor in Latin America use LP or propane gas bottles for cooking. We only see that stuff used stateside with outdoor barbecues and RV camping. Here’s the scoop and what you’ll need to know when they bring the LP bottles to your door #3-Gringos getting off the grid In Latin America. Wherever you happen to be, your goal should be to eventually get off the grid. There’s no easier place to do it than in Latin America. No rush.. you can do it slowly.. step by step #4-A discussion about organic and specialty foods in Latin America #5 –Johnny’s, Expat Files Show #635 (02-19-2017) gets the boot from YouTube. #1- 10 things you really should know about Latin gypsy’s, tramps, thieves, vagabonds, bums, beggars and street performers.   #2-A quick guide to hiring and firing maids, gardeners and other domestic help. Up in the states, most gringos and Expats can never afford a maid or gardener. That can present stressful boss/employee relations problems if not handled correctly right from the start. Problem #1: Many Gringos/Gringas feel quite guilty about paying so little (considered slave wages in the states). They often compensate by being very lenient and letting maids set the rules in the house,  often forgetting who’s the boss and who’s the employee.   #3-The strict Latin class system is partly based on skin color. In today’s “boots on the ground” story a typical indigenous maid tells us her views on various Latin skin colors (yes, they have the full spectrum of skin colors in Latin America).   #4- Everyone wants to know if there is a shortcut or best way to learn Spanish. Unfortunately, Spanish learning methods are like diet books. There’s a million of them and most just look nice sitting on the coffee table. The good news is that Expat Insider Seminar alumnus Jack Brett is writing a second addition to his 2012 book “Fast Spanish”. And when it comes out, he’s making it available free to Expat Files listeners.     #5 –Johnny’s, Expat Files Show #635 (02-19-2017) gets the boot from YouTube. #1- Hidden truths about the proposed Trump wall the media will never tell you about #2-The quick start, vote-with-your-feet, fast track “Plan B” method explained #3- What you need to know about Latin currencies and the underlying inflation stats behind them #4- There have been subtle and not so subtle changes in the Latin coins and change in your pocket. Yes, one can tell by fingering Latin coins that  most every country has an unsound monetary system. In fact when you drop newer coins on a table they even sound different, more cheaply made, less valuable and even fake (sound familiar?) What’s up with that? #5-Today’s “boots on the ground” story involves an embarrassed wealthy, entitled Latin guy (who deserves it) #6 –Johnny’s, Expat Files Show #635 (02-19-2017) gets the boot from YouTube. #1- How long will your nest-egg last if you live in Latin America? All future or potential expats plan to arrive with some money in reserve, it may be a million or just $1000 who knows? That said, you “Plan B” seekers who aren’t planning on retiring soon are often chomping at the bit to make some money or start a business. Today we discuss gringo businesses and ways to calculate how long your nest-egg might last in Latin America   #2- Expat Eddie’s other great Latin American business idea. Today we talk about the “one that got away from him”. Up in the USA many of us had maybe one or two golden business ideas or opportunities within our reach that either never materialized or just fizzled. In Latin America you just don’t have one or two good ideas in a lifetime. There are so many niches waiting to be filled that the frequency of new ideas will sometimes make your head hurt.     #3-Ten things you must know before driving a car or motorcycle in Latin America   #4- MY NEXT EXPAT “INSIDER” SEMINAR will be Saturday July 8th thru Thursday July 13th 2017 in and around Guatemala, Central America. #1- Things change when Expats find out they can afford maids, gardeners , maintenance men, cooks, pool guys and even drivers. Some gringos, who were quite used to being on their first-world treadmills, suddenly get bored. That said, gringos who don’t stay active can end up with substance abuse as their hobby. Today we discuss that problem. #2- Expat Eddie’s back on the radar again and this time he’s gotten in a jam- a three car accident on the Pan American Highway. Today we tell that “boots on the ground” story. Thankfully no one was hurt -but Eddie and the guy who rear ended him were well over the legal limit. Eddie’s 1.2 blood level alcohol would have caused him a world of trouble in the USA, so what happened in this case? What should Expats do after a car accident? If you drive an accident will happen sooner or later ya know. #3-The ins and outs of Latin American car insurance. What are the  recommendations for Gringos and Expats who drive? Know that there are quite a number of differences in the insurance plans and coverage down here versus auto policies in the USA. So today we go through a typical full coverage policy for a new car and point what you really should be aware of (but certainly aren’t because almost no one is). #4- MY NEXT EXPAT “INSIDER” SEMINAR will be Saturday July 8th thru Thursday July 13th 2017 in and around Guatemala, Central America. #1- When Gringos end up in Latin court. Yes, you can get into legal trouble anywhere, anything can happen no matter which country you might be living or hanging. Too bad these days almost no one gets through life without initiating or getting sucked into some kind of legal action. So then, what about getting pulled into a Latin lawsuit or ending up in a Latin court? Should you be frightened or worried? Well today, appearing in Latin court, is the subject of Expat Eddie’s latest crazy gringo adventure. Yes, Eddie’s re-surfaced, this time with another “boots on the ground” story that could only happen to a Gringo. #2- Money, payments, credit, loans and Latinos #3-By popular demand, today we discuss the rock bottom prices one might pay for a basic vehicle in decent condition. That is, without considering the cosmetics(which will surely be deplorable), what would be a reasonable low-end price to pay and still get good, reliable transportation that will last a few years on those crazy Latin roads. #4-Most of the older cars in Latin America are stick-shift (mechanica) and as such are a bit cheaper than cars with automatic transmissions. Can you drive a stick? If you do you’ll not only save some money on the purchase price but you’ll also get a bit better gas mileage- not to mention stick shift transmissions are cheaper and easier to repair. #5- MY NEXT EXPAT “INSIDER” SEMINAR will be Saturday July 8th thru Thursday July 13th 2017 in and around Guatemala, Central America. #1- The potable and tap-water situation in Latin America: Yes, you will need to do some water homework before renting, building or buying. If at all possible do avoid buying or renting places that are hooked up to a municipal water supply. Always choose a place with a private well if you can. However, suppose you find an absolutely spectacular Spanish Colonial gem of a place with a muni-water hookup. Should you bail on the deal because of the muni water hookup? Well, there are ways around annoying problems that seem to accompany nearly all Latin city municipal water hookups- like the fact their might only be water flowing for 8 or 12 hours a day. Today we’ll explore the problems and solutions … #2- Still more things you should expect to experience when living in a gated/guarded community #3-Up and coming Latins are extremely proud of their achievements and love to put on airs. In doing so they often bite off more than they can chew, stretch their credit to the limit and take loans for things to impress friends, neighbors and relatives. But strange things can happen when things go south… #5- MY NEXT EXPAT “INSIDER” SEMINAR will be Saturday July 8th thru Thursday July 13th, 2017 in and around Guatemala, Central America. Should you have them? Are they necessary? #4- The use and abuse of DRONES in Latin America. Yes, all the latest and greatest commercial and individual drones are available down here.
