SpinalColumnRadio - chiropractic interviews, philosophy, history, politics, comedy | Spinal Column Radio for the chiropracTOR

Summary: As he enthusiastically announces at the opening of each show with theme music blaring… “My name is Dr. Thomas Lamar, ChiropracTOR and Dad of Seven!” On January 1st, 2010, this chiropracTOR — along with his then 9 year-old audio engineer son, Logan — launched Spinal Column Radio, an Internet radio program about “all-things-chiropractic.” Modeled after his longstanding community newspaper column, Lamar’s target audience initially was the lay public. Eight months later though, through a string of amazing events, a “shift” happened and Spinal Column Radio found itself in its present format: serving the chiropracTIC profession by delivering content that motivates, supports, and encourages chiropractors world-wide (along with their assistants, students, advocates, and students-to-be), to uphold and revere the principles in which chiropractic has thrived since 1895. “Ironically, while my audience has seemingly shifted from the lay public, I’m finding that by delivering content that spurns the average chiropractor in the trenches to be the best chiropractor he or she can be, I have not left my post of educating the lay public about chiropractic… about, as I say, ‘to think about their health in a whole new way’ — instead,” Lamar shares, ”I have found a way to leverage my message through hundreds and hundreds of chiropractors all over the planet, which in turn influence their communities. In this sense, the message is being disseminated in a much grander way.” The show has literally taken the father-son team — with their studio in tow — coast to coast for on location interviews with some of the greatest names and minds in the profession at events such as New Beginnings Chiropractic Weekends, The California Jam, and ChiroFest. With nearly 300 interviews “in the can,” Lamar is quickly living up to the description someone once gave him as being “The Larry King of Chiropractic.” “Who knew…” - as he spouts off in his introduction - “…spinal education could be THIS much fun!”

Episode 122 — AB2109: Spitting in the Face of Our Constitution’s First Amendment Right — an interview with Dr. Mark Cymerint | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

BREAKING NEWS-- The right for parents in California to opt out their children from the state’s mandatory vaccination schedule due to personal beliefs is up against a radical, government-intruding change that spits in the face of the First Amendment Right of the Constitution of our United States of America. Parents holding strong personal or religious beliefs against vaccinating their children would no longer be able to sign-off on the state’s long-standing exemption form, unless their signature was accompanied by the signature of a medical physician. Authored by assemblyman and pediatrician, Dr. Richard Pan, the bill AB2109, in a grand showing of political theatrics, played through the Assembly’s Health Committee on April 17th, 2012, like a forgone conclusion. The question now remains: Do enough of us care -- whether we live in CA or not -- to put a stop to a slippery slope that seems to be getting slicker by the minute? Join Dr. Lamar for this third episode in the Spinal Column Radio AB2109 Triple Header as he converses with national vaccine injury lecturer Dr. Mark Cymerint. Plus: Assembly Health Committee Hearing sound bites, the irony of SB1318, information on the CCA and AB2109, and the anti-vaccination rock band, The Refusers.

Episode 121 — Political Theater for AB2109: O’Shea’s Account of the CA Assembly Health Committee Hearing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

BREAKING NEWS-- Dr. Tim O'Shea joins us once again to give us a "fly on the wall" account on what amounted to be "Political Theatrics" at its best, as the California Assembly Health Committee voted to approve proposed bill AB2109 on April 17, 2012. If enacted into law, this California bill will make it mandatory for parents to talk with a medical physician if they choose to exercise their RIGHT to exempt their child from the compulsory vaccine schedule needed for school attendance because it counters a philosophical belief of theirs. If you don’t live in California and are thinking this doesn’t affect you.... think again. While this bill has very little do directly with chiropractic.... it has EVERYTHING to do with your RIGHTS as a parent to make decisions for your child free of government mandated handholding and oversight.... This is just one of the many boils on the butt of a much larger dragon that must be slayed! Ignore this boil, though, and we’re all cooked.

Episode 120 — Vaccination Exemptions: Government Looking to Control Parental Decision Making in California (AB2109) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

BREAKING NEWS-- Like a thief in the night last year, it happened in Washington State. And now it's poised and ready to happen in California. And if it happens in California, you can rest assure that the rest of the states will fall in line like dominos. On February 23, 2012, Democratic California assembly member, and pediatric physician, Dr. Richard Pan, introduced Assembly Bill 2109 regarding vaccination exemptions. “This bill, if passed, would require parents to obtain the signature of a 'health care practitioner' for a personal beliefs/religious exemption. MDs, nurse practitioners, and physician’s assistants can sign. Naturopaths and chiropractors cannot. The signature will need to be obtained on a separate form provided by the Department of Public Health, which states that the health care practitioner has provided risk and benefit information to the parent.” On this special "Breaking News" edition of Spinal Column Radio, Chiropractor, Dr. Tim O’Shea, author of Vaccination is Not Immunization and well known advocate for parental rights regarding immunology and natural health care joins us once again to give us the 411.

Episode 118 — CCE Conversation Continues: NACIQI Hearings and Dr. Reggie Gold | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

On today's episode, we pause for a moment to pay homage to an incredible chiropracTOR that bid us farewell last week (March 24, 2012) — Dr. Reggie Gold. It is unlikely that we will see a warrior of his magnitude in our lifetime that matches his legacy. He truly will be missed. But while the man may be gone, his message will continue to burn bright in each and everyone that he touched. And then.... as Reggie would have wanted, we press on for chiropracTIC as we listen in on the December 2011 US Department of Education's NACIQI (National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity) hearing for the reaccreditation of the CCE (Council on Chiropractic Education). Plus, we revisit the March 2012 CCE Stakeholders Meeting and then play an interview we conducted on the subject while at the Fall 2011 New Beginnings Chiropractic Weekend with the chiropractic icon himself, Dr. Reggie Gold.

Episode 117 — CCE Drops Bombshell at 03/16/12 Stakeholder Meeting: An Interview with MCQI’s Dr. Steve Tullius | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

BREAKING NEWS -- On March 16, 2012, The Council of Chiropractic Education (CCE) held it's first "Stakeholder Meeting"in which it invited select groups of the profession — an effort demonstrating it's attempt to build bridges and resolve the record-breaking list of violations that were handed down to it from the Department of Education National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity's (NACIQI) December reaccreditation hearings. NACIQI found CCE to be in violation of 42 different issues. Most notable however was the "43rd violation" in which they stated: “In addition to the numerous issues identified in the staff report, NACIQI asks [CCE] to demonstrate compliance with Section 602.13 dealing with the wide acceptance of its standards, policies, procedures, and decisions; and to address how its standards advance quality in chiropractic education.” NACIQI granted the CCE continued accrediting authority provided that it could adequately resolve the list of violations within a year's time. The "Stakeholder Meeting" was its first attempt to resolve issues surrounding being more representative of the differences in philosophy that exist in our profession. Unfortunately, as we'll find out from one of the attendees, the meeting ended up being quite the opposite. Today on Spinal Column Radio we welcome back the cofounder of the Movement for Chiropractic Quality and Integrity (MCQI), Dr. Steve Tullius, to find out the the "Stakeholder Meeting" was just that — "an attempt to 'stake' anyone that dare question CCE authority or make constructive comments regarding chiropractic education to the wall."
