Cynically seen by some as the party of big business.National Party (the Nats)Founded in 1920 and called the country party for many years, the “Nats” have traditionally been the party for rural regional areas. The Nationals form coalitions with the Liberals; under a Liberal prime minister, the deputy PM is the “Nats” leader. Recently the Nationals support has declined, as many people see them as little more than a lapdog for the Liberals.The coalition between the Liberals and Nationals is called the Liberal National Party (LNP).Labor (the left)Founded in the 1890s, and basically the political arm of the union movement. Although often described as a socialist democratic party, Labor has for many years supported causes like fair conditions for workers, increased wages and ending conscription, amongst others. Despite a significant fall in union membership in the workforce over the years, at least 3 quarters of Labor politicians are ex union members/leaders, and the party has drifted further left while at the same time embracing identity politics.The GreensStarting in 1972 originally on a platform of protecting the environment the Greens are basically the party for “loonies, tree huggers, dole bludgers and any other blight on society you can think of.”They have a very socialist agenda and are not afraid to show it. Despite this, support for them has grown, especially as climate change and identity politics have taken centre stage.For a long time, Australia was used to stable governments, regardless of which side was in power.Until late 2007, the Liberals under John Howard had been in power for over 11 years.Before that, Labor under Bob Hawke and later Paul Keating were in power for 13 years. What has happened since could make Australia the laughing-stock of the world.Nov 2007: Kevin Rudd (Labor) replaces John Howard as PM in a landslide election. Rudd is seen as “new generation” (he was the first Australian politician to capitalise on the millennial vote through social media) and enjoys record support and fawning media coverage for the next 2 years.This changes with the Liberals electing Tony Abbot as leader in late 2009. His no-nonsense style (for example calling climate change “absolute crap”) quickly energises the conservative vote.June 2010: Support for Rudd declines over a backflip in climate change policy, so he is dumped as leader and replaced by Julia Gillard.Although unprecedented in Australian politics, this soon becomes normal practice. At what point do we put the blame on that individual and not there upbringing? Is there a point or is your life strongly determined by those early years and you will forever be a "victim" to your early years? This question I have often pondered because I look at my own life and the bad childhood. I was molested by boys and girls in my neighborhoods at a very young age and those things continued until I was 11, I was exposed to pornography very young, my mother died when I was 8, my ex step moms neglected me heavily and at times hit me, their kids did similar things to me growing up, my father abandoned me for a time to my horrible ex step moms after my mom died, and it goes on. These things have shaped me to who I am but I don't see myself as a victim. I'm a guy who is married to his best friend and high school sweetheart with a great job with greater opportunities coming. I have a great social circle with the best friend, but even before those things I felt I have built a resiliency or tolerance for bad things which has made me stronger.Maybe it comes from my religious views, views on the world, and also I think it is probably strongly influenced by people like Stef whom have become such a positive influence in my life over the years. I don't feel like I'm gifted in anyway I just work hard and try to live my lifewithin a set of values.The reason I say this is because I listen to countless people who call in that have experienced absolutely horrific childhoods. Those childhood experiences obviously have greatly affected their current place in life. My question is I guess simply, when do we tell someone "you had a bad childhood that's why you may be where you are now so lets fix it" vs "it doesn't matter your childhood, pick yourself up and take responsibility for your life". I know we chatted last year, and boy, have some things changed. Short version: Wife found out she was pregnant in December last year and she has been instantly against it. Wanted an abortion and didn’t want to tell anyone. I said NO. She has been very upset since then. We have been to therapy on this, but she is not open minded to being a mother. She has threatened divorce and doesn’t want anything to do with the child. I’ve been scouring the internet and talking with friends and I have not found any anecdotes of this situation. All of the stories I have found are the male/female situations reversed (I.e. woman gets pregnant, wants to keep baby, and boyfriend wants to pay for abortion). I’ve been trying to talk and/or craft a plan to do the best in this situation, and I’m struggling. Have you or have you had any callers that have heard of this? It’s boggling my mind. "One student is dead and at least seven students have been injured in a shooting at a Colorado school on Tuesday, according to authorities. "My name is [X], and I am 28 years old. My husband and I got married when I was 21. I have been a homemaker for the past almost 4 years, and my husband and I both really enjoy and appreciate a more traditional approach to our marriage relationship, as well as outlook on life... except for one vital area on my behalf - I can’t seem to bring myself to want children."I understand fundamentally and philosophically the importance of building a family, particularly a strong nuclear family, and I also really enjoy looking into traditional family structures and studying the best methods of raising children, etc. (with influence from your show as well of course). I want to will myself to desire children, but I just can’t. The fear of having them and all it entails scares me to the point of having not taken that step with my husband, despite being married 7 years and being in my late 20s, and with that knowing the clock is ticking. I have some surface level reasonings I believe are at play for this, having not had good parenting while growing up and that stemming into issues within myself, but I believe it would be beneficial to examine in depth why this is something I struggle with so deeply."My husband is a very solid man and supportive of me, including in this area, but I know he truly would want to build a family, and I feel guilt over not giving that to him.
