By Richard Hunt So many of us - always busy, always connected, never unplugged. Dallas Pastor Robert Morris experienced an embarrassing moment of just what over-doing-it can lead to! “I was so tired and when I opened my sock drawer, I didn’t have any socks. And I actually felt myself beginning to cry, admits Pastor Morris. “So, I talked with a friend of mine and said, ‘I think I’m losing my mind.’” And he said, “You’re not losing your mind Robert. You’re just tired.” The uncomfortable sock incident led Morris to look again at the 4th Commandment in the Bible, where he says God tells us, actually commands us, to take a break, honor Him, and recharge. Morris is the founding lead pastor of the 17,000 member Gateway Church, which has multiple campuses in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. Clearly a man of God, but also a man who needs recharging like everyone does, he decided to share his experience and solution with a guidebook, "Take the Day Off; Receiving God’s Gift Of Rest."
K-LOVE's Billie Branham talks with Dr. Demetrio Aguila about the program, inspired by Matthew 25.
Ever Heard Of A ‘Kindness Tunnel?’ We Think You’ll Love This Story! (by Richard Hunt) Students at Summit Hill Elementary in Milton, Ga. welcomed first-responders and the mayor - and surrounded them with encouragement in a long hallway designated as the “Kindness Tunnel.” Assistant Principal Mary Beth Burns says, “To see just those precious little ones showing gratitude towards them, it really touched them. They were smiling and waving, taking selfies with the kids, they seemed to be living it up.”
She smiles and calls what happened the morning after the disastrous fire: “Salon Gano.” Teacher Michelle Gano welcomed her classroom of third graders with a very special Monday morning of fun and encouragement. That’s because many of the children were still stunned and sleep-deprived from what had just happened overnight. A raging inferno struck Bound Brook, New Jersey, in January. “I didn’t see it, but I can only imagine the site that these kids saw… right out their windows!” Michelle knows it was a “terrifying image.” After learning the full extent of the fire situation, Michelle says “all I wanted to do was be with my kids in my classroom and just know that everyone was safe.” As she considered what to do as a teacher, she realized “academics were out the window” that day, so she gathered supplies in case any of her students needed to get cleaned-up, wash their hair, or brush their teeth. That was what became known as “Salon Gano” – complete with a shampoo station, a hair-drying station, and then some “fancy hairdos.” The result? “It really was a special way of being together and taking care of really their physical needs, but also their emotional needs, they were so shaken by the night before.”
