Frank reviews the research, and the history, of the idea that the extreme differences in body type between larval and adult stages of metamorphic insects and echinoderms is the result of cross-phyletic hybridization. Such hybridization is in direct conflict with Darwin's theory of linear progression, and wreaks havoc with the root and branch structure of evolution. We will talk about both the ideas, and their reception to the biology community.
