 Dave’s Lounge #183 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20100208.mp3] Congratulations to @carlweaver, @cluebcke, @doctorZZ and @karankshah for winning free copies of Artemis' new EP Auralei. Not only does Artemis have a new EP in 2010, but so does Natalie Walker's band Mouchette. This week, you'll hear a song that I first heard them play (and recorded for posterity) in Philadelphia in December of 2008, not to mention plenty of great artist and label submissions.  Dave’s Lounge #181: Back for 2010 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20100111.mp3] Dave's Lounge re-opens for 2010 with a few changes: 1.) By popular demand, I've brought back the original theme music, my song "By Candlelight," which is now available as a free download on both Soundcloud and TheSixtyOne.com. At some point, I want to put this song on iTunes and eMusic as well, but that might be a few months down the road. 2.) I've decided to make Dave's Lounge a bi-weekly podcast, rather than a weekly podcast. This is in large part because of my struggles to keep this show on a regular schedule for much of last year. My hope was that the 200th show would coincide with this show's 5th anniversary, but now that it's clear this will not happen, I figure it's best to make this show fit my schedule, rather than the other way around. I know this will disappoint a few listeners out there, but bear in mind this is only one of several hobbies I'm pursuing, and I'm still trying to find the right balance for all of them. Hopefully, this will help. Playlist for Dave's Lounge #181: Artemis, "Auralei"  Buy from: Bandcamp Alice Russell, "All Alone (Mocean Worker Remix)"  Buy from: iTunes | eMusic The Black Seeds, "Slingshot"  Buy from: iTunes | eMusic Ka-Pow!, "My Steeze"  Buy from: iTunes | eMusic Klake, "You"  Buy from: iTunes | eMusic The Esoteric Gender, "Throwaway Girl" Stockfinster, "Gold Canyon"  Free download from: Sutemos John Beltran, "It Was All Beautiful"  Buy from: iTunes | eMusic Own an iPhone or an iPod touch? [audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20080212.mp3] I'm a little on edge tonight, for a variety of reasons. Sometimes when that happens, I come back this particular episode I recorded early in 2008 and press play. I'm putting it back in the feed this week, because it just suits my mood, and sometimes you just need music that helps you feel the way you're feeling. I'll have new music for y'all next week.  Dave’s Lounge #177: Spotlight on Om Records | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20091116.mp3] Last week, this show put the spotlight on Sine Music. This week, the spotlight falls on the good folks at Om Records, a San Francisco-based label that was gracious enough to send me a small package of CDs last week, and trust me when I say that very good things came in this small package. If you dug last week's music selection, I know you're gonna dig this...  Dave’s Lounge #176 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20091108.mp3] I came down with the flu last week -- not sure if it was the dreaded swine flu or not, but it was nasty -- so while I'm recovering from that, I'm going to leave with a few new from the good folks at Sine Music, including a couple of tracks from Polished Chrome's debut full-length album, "First Experience." Sine Music has been good to this podcast over the last two years, so go show 'em some love by buying a song or two...  Dave’s Lounge #175 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20091028.mp3] So I fell behind in just about every facet of my life after my recent trip to Philadelphia -- which was not only a great time, but also a bit of a learning experience about life in an old city. My friends and I did a lot of walking that weekend, even though it was rainy and cold out, because everything was close by, and driving anywhere was expensive and inconvenient. People live and work and play in cities like that all over the world. There's a certain romance to that. It makes me wish I didn't live in a sprawling town where car ownership is a practical requirement... [audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20091014.mp3] Last week, I was feeling a really strong urge to get out of the house, and I decided it was necessary for me to scratch that itch.  Dave’s Lounge #172: Late in the Evening | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090924.mp3] It's Grand Final weekend for our friends down in Australia, so I thought it might be fun to start with a song that Australian radio station Triple J called the 77th hottest song of all time -- a bit bombastic, perhaps, but I think you'll enjoy that tune and the rest of this week's playlist regardless.  Dave’s Lounge #171 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090917.mp3] There are a lot of artists I would love to promote on this show, but I can't, because they're signed to RIAA labels. These major labels are actively trying to punish music fans for sharing music they love with others and helping to grow their favorite artists' audience. They're also forcing new music companies out of business by charging those companies exorbitant sums of money for the right to expose their music to new potential customers. Chances are good that the RIAA would sue me for hundreds of thousands of dollars if I played one song in a major label catalog on this podcast -- even if that label's marketing arm asked me to play it! So this podcast remains dedicated to promoting music by independent artists and labels, because they understand the value of podcast promotion. We don't need the RIAA to make good music. Let's hope more people understand that and vote for the music industry they want with their wallets.  Dave’s Lounge #170 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

[audio:http://media.libsyn.com/media/daveslounge/DavesLounge-20090910.mp3] Now that it appears the majority of our Feedburner trouble is behind us, we can get back to sharing some new music with the world. A few months ago, the awesome Properly Chilled podcast talked about the idea that downtempo electronic BPMs seem to be rising every year, almost to the point where downtempo means midtempo. This week's playlist represents that more midtempo side of the genre very well, I think. Playlist for Dave's Lounge #170: Polished Chrome, "Gimme Your Love"  Buy from: iTunes Tal M.
