Boeing’s Phantom Eye; 150-Foot Wingspan unmanned aircraft, completed its first successful autonomous flight. The United States has stepped up its drone campaign. Is this a beginning of an end of pilot profession as we know it?
Space exploration: Historical progress, next step in the future of travel or waste of money that could be used to improve the foundation of general aviation in US?
The New York Times: “English Skills a Concern as Global Aviation Grows”. While common sense dictates aviation need for one language, a language as rich in vocabulary and nuance as English presents some challenges in aviation operations. Should we come up with language that is “foreign” to everybody and then everybody has to learn at the same level? “Aviation Esperanto” anybody?
GA Airport Security – Fact or fiction? Do we need fences around small airstrips? Are existing security systems in place just to make general public feel better? Are we making GA airports unfriendly and empty place?

Most non-pilots are completely ignorant when it comes to general aviation knowledge. Some things seem too hard to even Google and it doesn't have to be even a “stupid one”. As pilots and flight instructors in the General Aviation community, we often wonder what non pilots think about us. We always wonder if there is a misconception about what we do and who we are. Today we bring in a special guest to our studio. Well educated, young individual who traveled the world but does not know much about GA Pilots in the US. We allow him to ask the “stupid questions”.
The cost of GA... (Will it ever be affordable again...to the average, or... is it the nature of the beast to only be accessible to few? Is the biggest reason for the decline in GA is simply the cost of flying? Let’s go back thirty years... In 1974 the cost was $22 for the plane $6 for the instructor. That’s $28 an hour! Now it’s around $150 for the plane $60 for the instructor. It is about 8 times the cost from 1974. Are you earning 8 times as much as you did 30 years ago?
Boeing just called on the aviation industry to transform aviation training: "We need to bring back the magic of flying." said Mike Carriker, Boeing Test & Evaluation chief pilot. Boeing forecasts a need for more than one million new pilots and technicians over the next twenty years. Can we bring safety, proficiency and "magic" of flying in IFR (or VFR) together, or is it gone forever with all the new technology?
