We have a special holiday program on tap for tonight. Join host Larry Jordan and co-host Mike Horton as they talk with: Alexis Van Hurkman, Colorist We spoke with Alexis Van Hurkman, colorist and author, last week about how to setup and equip a color grading suite. This week, we continue our conversation with Alexis with a look at what software to use and how to use it effectively. - – - A LOOK BACK AT 2010 – - - As we wrap up another year, it seems appropriate to gather the entire gang around the electronic campfire and take a look back to try to figure out what the heck happened to the last year. The deals, the announcements, the products that made it (and those that didn’t), and all the legal scuffling. Kick back, relax, and listen in as our gang waxes poetic (or, ah, pontificates portentously). Whatever — you’re gonna have fun listening! Jonathan Handel, Entertainment Labor Reporter, Hollywood Reporter Jonathan Handel, entertainment labor reporter for the Hollywood Reporter, covers the legal, union, and labor issues in Hollywood for The Buzz. He looks back on all the strikes, near-strikes, and non-strikes of the past year and tries to figure out who got a hit, and who struck out. One thing we especially what to learn more about is whether, after all the brouhaha surrounding the Screen Actors Guild, whether they came out ahead or behind as this year ends. Philip Hodgetts, CEO, Intelligent Assistance Nobody knows technology like Philip Hodgetts, president of Intelligent Assistance. Whether we are talking about codecs (Mike’s personal favorite subject), hot new products, or even products that aren’t even released, Philip takes a look back at 2010 to analyze the hits and the misses. From new cameras, to new software, and lots of interesting releases in-between, one thing Phillip is really good at is explaining how all this stuff fits together, or fall apart. Bruce Nazarian, The Digital Guy Bruce Nazarian, the Digital Guy, has his feet in two camps: optical media and music. This week, we asked him to define the highlights of the past year from his perspective and, then, set them to music. Well, OK, maybe we won’t ask him to sing, but after all the noise Blu-ray was making at the beginning of the year, it sure has gone quiet just a few months later. What new trends should we be keeping our eyes on? Debbie Price, Digital Production Buzz Debbie Price, event manager for the Digital Production Buzz, is one of the unsung folks behind-the-scenes that makes everything work. She’s been one of the driving forces, along with Laura Peters, behind the Buzz Shout-out, so we invited her on to bring us up-to-date on skyrocketing success of this program. Jessica Sitomer, President, The Greenlight Coach Jessica Sitomer, president of The Greenlight Coach, is another great person to have on your team. She’s been with us all this year with tips and suggestions on how to find and keep work. She joins us this week with more job-hunting tips and a report card on what she’s learned by watching the Buzz Shout-out. We are also interested in figuring out what were the most successful ways to find work this past year. Michael Horton, Head Cutter, Los Angeles Final Cut Pro User Group Michael Horton, president of the Los Angeles Final Cut Pro User Group, runs one of the largest user groups in the country, along with co-hosting The Buzz. We want to talk with him about his views of the last year from the point of view of everyone that’s actually using all this stuff. (We were going to ask him to sing, but, frankly, we all need a bit more egg nog before we’re ready for that!) Still, The Buzz wouldn’t be the show it is without Mike, and we are grateful! It’s gonna be a great time, with old and new friends. Make a point to join us!

Even worse, he writes technical books explaining technology to people that don’t understand it. As the author of 13 books in the Made Simple series, his focus is mobile devices. We want to learn what it takes to create successful training in the digital age. Jack Nutting, developer. Jack loves tech. In fact, he’s best friends with Objective-C, Java, and Cocoa programming. (We drink Cocoa, but that’s probably not the same thing..) Jack develops the software that folks like Gary Mazo train people in. So, we want to talk to Jack about the benefits to filmmakers in considering developing their own iPhone app to promote their projects. Matt Katsolis, director/cinematographer for Interpret Studios, won the Grand Prize in Panasonic’s “Shoot It. Share It.” video contest. Terry Curren, founder and president of AlphaDogs, Inc, runs a boutique post-production facility in Burbank, CA, which he founded in 2002. AlphaDogs just finished a mini-series for ESPNU called “The Battle.” We want to talk with him about what’s involved in finishing a project with lots of different source file formats – 7D, 5D, Red – different frame rates, and a very, very short post schedule! CPC Closed Captioning (Computer Prompting and Captioning Company) has been coming to GV Expo for years. Smith is the new Editor of Government Video Magazine and is here as the official host and master of ceremonies for GV Expo 2010. Aaron Brady, managing director for Autocue, tells us about their products and what makes them different. Kyle Dann, Product Specialist from Anton Bauer is showing a new gold-mount bracket for the Canon HDSLR cameras. While Anton Bauer has been a leader in the battery platform for many years, they also produce a wide range of other camera gear, as we discover in this interview. 3D and Virtual Technology are hot right now and one of the companies in the middle of it is Hybrid. We spoke with Gary Attanasio, the Director of Business Development for Hybrid, to learn more about what virtual technology is. CEI (Communications Engineering Inc.) is both a reseller and a system integrator. Systems integrators assemble gear from a variety of vendors to create in installation for a client. In this interview Phil Whitebloom, VP of Sales and Marketing for CEI, explains a brand-new one-person camera package designed for docs and news-gathering. With the increased emphasis on security, it’s no surprise that one of the exhibitors at GV Expo specializes in surveillance. The company is Cobham and Joe Bonacetti is their Federal Sales Manager. He describes some new wireless gear that allows on-the-fly wireless networking and media called “IP Mesh”. Pond 5 is a web-based marketplace for stock image, video, and audio. And the reason that Pond 5 is at GV Expo, as their CEO, Tom Bennett, explains is to increase their visibility. The key reason behind this is that Pond 5 is a marketplace, which makes them different from other stock houses. Avid has a vast range of products that appeal to video editors. We spoke with Sam Bogoch, Director of Design for Avid’s Interplay media asset management system, for a quick comparative look between their product and others on the market. David Lemonte-Shepherd, President of Cabletime USA, is at GV Expo to meet with DC-based integrators and to show their new digital products for IP TV and Digital Signage. This week’s episode of the world’s only interactive talk radio program covering Digital Production, Post-Production and Distribution is filled with great information and entertainment designed for the independent filmmaker or industry professional. Join host Larry Jordan, and co-host Michael Horton, as they talk with: Howie Schwartz, CEO, HSR|NY Howie Schwartz founded Howard Schwartz Recording, HSR|NY in 1975. Since then, he’s taken his company from a one-room post-production “jingle factory” to a virtual empire of audio recording and post-production studios spanning over 20,000 square feet in New York City. With some of the most visible clients in the world today, he must be doing something right and we want to find out what - plus, it is always fun to hear stories about those “good old days.” Moments before we began our live show, IATSE, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, announced that it was striking the reality TV program: The Biggest Loser. We tracked down Jonathan Handel, entertainment labor correspondent for the Hollywood Reporter, to give us insight on what this strike means and whether it applies to the the larger world of reality television. Todd Weaver, CEO, ivi.TV A few weeks ago - just after their launch - we invited Todd Weaver, CEO of iviTV on the BuZZ to talk about their service and the firestorm their launch created. Media companies were claiming copyright infringement, and worse. Since ivi.tv is still generating some very hot BuZZ, we thought he could update us on the latest as they bring broadcast television to the Internet.
