NEW FOR JANUARY 15, 2013 For the past, I don't know how many years, Rick From New York has taken a look back at the year that was The Best Radio You Have Never Heard, and compiles the best tracks played in the previous year. These picks include not only new releases, but any of the tracks that got a slot in the shows, making it an even more cumbersome task for Rick. And I wouldn't have it any other way . . . We now join Rick in progress . . . Winter snowfall in the Catskills has a way of letting things become more apparent than normal. You can tell if someone else has been walking in the woods besides you and Cooper the Rotten Lab. The deer trails and beds are plainly visible and the absence of leaves allow long sight lines through the forest. The appearance of snow makes for market encounters with Daniel Craig or Donald Fagen, as we all pick up our weekend supplies. Woodsmoke from the winter retreats of summer tour musicians swirl to the strains of yet another rendition of "Up on Cripple Creek" or "Lay, Lady Lay". I can imagine old hippies regaling the youngsters with stories of Dylan's motorcycle accident or legends of the Hermit of Mink Hollow and how Grandfather Woodstock, who disappeared from the green a month ago, is currently sunning himself in Key West. Another Catskills seasonal event is that it is time for me to trot out another, "Ricks Picks" for BRYHNH.
