He would then listen to and collect tape packs from various raves, noteably Amnesia House and Pandemonium, his musical taste grew from rave to jungle/drum and bass, and at the age of 14 his cousin loaned him some records. He began to learn the tender art of DJing on 2 very old and different hi-fi decks. He got himself a weekly show on a local pirate radio station Mix FM, which quickly became the best underground radio station in the Midlands. 2010 saw Luke move into the world of production, and in the past year he has gained the respect of many of his peers and an ever growing fanbase.

If you’ve ever met Neil Kurland, you know that he is not easily forgotten. In addition to his memorable charisma, he brings with him an excited and energized attitude that permeates every interaction he has. He brings this same excitement to every show that he plays, and revels in passing it on to his audience. Born in Baltimore MD, Neil came up in the world of Hip-Hop and Baltimore Club, playing alongside such luminaries as Karizma, Scottie B and DJ Spen. Known for being a master of the art of turntablism, and for genre-bending sets of house, hip-hop and intelligent drum & bass, he’s graced the decks of such legendary parties as Miami’s Afternoon Delight (“5 Best WMC Daytime Parties” by MixMag UK), Ultraworld’s Starscape Festival, Camp Bisco, Future Classics, and Resident at Baltimore’s Mosaic lounge (twice listed as Spin Magazines “Best Nights Out in America”). Although still a lover of the music of his roots, Neil has settled firmly in the realm of house music where he has made an indelible mark. Famous for marathon sets of tech house splashed with deep tribal undertones, heavy hitting percussion, and infectious dirty bass lines, Neil is truly the dancer’s DJ. This focus on the dance floor has helped to launch his career to new heights. As co-owner of Soul Mob Productions, Neil co-founded the epic Visionary Solstice Gatherings that have hosted such acclaimed artists and musicians as Alex Grey, See-I, Fort Knox Five, and Shpongle. Also Neil is co-producer of the Future classics events in Miami, listed as the largest pool party of 2011 WMC. He’s also stays true to his underground roots as a resident of the Philadelphia Experiment (PEX), a burning man based community throwing the biggest underground events on the east coast. Neil has been playing events throughout the world, and has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in electronic music including Spongle , Bassnectar, Deadmau5, Timmy Regisford, Ultra Nate, LTJ Bukem, and Infected Mushroom, just to name a few. Neil has recently signed with Ospina Digital, owned by world renowned Producer/DJ Davidson Ospina. Neil’s first collaboration with Ospina, “Dizzy” hit the charts hard, rising to number one on Stompy. (www.stompy.com) “Dizzy” was heard around the world thanks to international stars such as Maceo Plex, Groove Assassin, Richard Earnsaw, Shur-I-Can, Inland Nights, David Penn, Marques Wyatt and many more. Massive projects are in the works for 2012 guaranteed to light up the charts. Neil continues to expand internationally playing at events around the world as demand for his music pulls him to new places with fresh ears and steady dance floors. With over a decade of experience already under his belt, the future looks to be even brighter for this rising star, and Neil Kurland is definitely someone to keep an eye on. As a lover of music, he continues to chase down the freshest beats around. Simply put, he’s become one of the great DJ/Producers of the modern world. The question is, what is the sound of Chris Lake? Yes, he is known for his musical crossovers, and based on the success of ‘Changes’, ‘La Tromba’, ‘Only One’ and ‘If You Knew’, why not? The latter, taking the number one spot in the Music Week, Buzz and Cool Cuts charts, while the accompanying music video was praised by MTV and broke into its Top 5 weekly chart. As a DJ his vibe is very different, always enjoying the darker and deeper side of electronic music, yet still fusing in cheeky edits and homemade tracks, just so the dance floor knows it’s the Chris Lake experience and one to be savored. 2010 kicked off with a Michael Woods remix of his collaboration with good friend Deadmau5 ‘I Said’ taking Pete Tong’s first ‘Essential New Tune of the decade.’ That was to be just the beginning… further works with Michael Woods on Dominos and another BBC Radio 1 hit, this time with Nelski on Minimal Life – all peaking with his Lake & Lys album ‘Cross the Line’, launched mid way through his residency at Cream Ibiza with Deadmau5 and Friends. The year ended in fine style, Chris and Marco, once again ripping up a re-edit, this time Nightrider’s ‘Hey’ got the treatment – another Buzz Chart No.1 for the guys. Chris now calls Los Angeles home. 2012 has brought big collaborations, a massive schedule of dates, and an album deal with one of the world’s biggest dance music labels, Ultra. Nothing can stop this man, so I’m happy he dropped by today just for you.  Episode 085 | May 24th, 2012: Maor Levi | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:08

Click the post for details on this episode! How the weeks fly by! Welcome back to Open House and a very special 85th episode featuring an exclusive with Anjunabeats’ rising star, Maor Levi. Maor began his journey into the world of electronic music at the tender age of 11 when he discovered local artists Infected Mushroom and Yahel. Delving deeper into the land of electronica, Maor inevitably stumbled across Tiesto’s ‘In Search of Sunrise’ album. This was a major staging point for Maor as the deep kick drums, driving bass lines and resonating melodies overwhelmed him with enchantment. It was then that Maor knew that he wanted to be a part of this culture and dedicated himself to producing. After many years of hard practice and determination Maor finally signed his first record ‘Ministry of Love’ to the UK Label ‘Lost Language’ under his Progressive Trance alias ‘Pillow One’ which layed the foundation for his career. Bringing a new approach to the Israeli trance scene with his unique blend of various sounds and genres, Maor’s success became unstoppable, signing massive hits to many top global labels such as ‘Anjunabeats UK’, ‘Spinnin Records NL’, ‘Armada NL’, ‘Ministry of Sound’ and many more. Maor’s earned the attention and love of many listeners, including me, and resulted in a large fanbase that has kept him moving forward within the industry. Maor’s House alias ‘123XYZ’ has already gained the support of imprints such Mark Knight’s Toolroom Records… If you have been living under a rock for the past few years then it is time to climb out, put on your dancing shoes and make way for Maor Levi.
