A softish night as we look forward to a lot of data this week: FTSE -0.6%, DAX -0.7%, despite no news; S&P -0.3%, Dow flat - both down more than 2% for the week despite highest consumer sentiment since late 2007.
Europe good but US mixed - FTSE +0.9%, DAX +1.1%, S&P +0.1%, Dow -0.1% - US opened stronger with strong jobless claims number - lowest since early 2008 - but gave up all the gains.
We'll be down after more red ink, with the usual rhetoric about Europe but US also had a poor start to the earnings season - FTSE -0.6%, DAX -0.4%, S&P -0.6%, Dow -1%.
We'll be down after a down day offshore - FTSE -0.5%, DAX -0.8%, S&P -0.8%, Dow -0.8% - with renewed uncertainty about Europe and no economic news from the US, and more down notes from the IMF.
We will open flat after a slightly negative result - FTSE -0.5%, DAX -1.4%, Dow -0.2%, S&P -0.3% - due to some concern about Europe and the IMF downgrade of China's growth forecast.
A good session, especially in Europe, US should have done better - FTSE +0.7%, DAX +1.3%, S&P flat, Dow +0.3% - for the month the Dow rose every day, and S&P every day except Friday.
We'll have another poistive start after it was mixed in Europe with no clear direction, good in the US with jobless claim down FTSE flat, DAX -0.2%, S&P +0.7%, Dow +0.6%.
September Services ISM: concensus expected 53.4 but the actual print was 55.1 with broad-based improvement. ADP employment metric: September 162,000, well above concensus 140,000. MBA mortgage applications jumped 20%, highest since April 2009.
No direction from overseas but we should start up due to the Reserve Bank's rate cut; FTSE -0.2%, DAX -0.3% - markets fretting about resolution of the current uncertainty - S&P flat, Dow -0.2% - with concern about earnings.
We'll start +0.4% with the AUD at 1.036 USD after a good night: FTSE +1.4% DAX +1.5% - German market up 33% in the year to date - US leapt at National ISM release Dow +0.6%, S&P +0.3%.
US snaps losing streak - S&P +1%, Dow +0.5%, FTSE and DAX +0.2% - a reaction to Chinese stimulus package and Spain's budget; ignoring the poor US data.
We'll be down (-0.7% at the opening) after another poor night in the US - FTSE +0.4%, DAX +0.2%, Dow -0.75%, S&P -1.1% - as Caterpillar suggest a decline in mining inventories, and Apple shares slumped.
A slightly negative session over suggestions that France and Germany are not in agreement over Europe's economy - FTSE -0.2%, DAX -0.5%, US recovered in the afternoon: S&P and Dow -0.2%.
AUD at USD1.046 and a flat start today as there's not much to report - FTSE flat, DAX +0.8%, S&P flat, Dow -0.1% - data consumer confidence, home sales and jobless claims will come out this week.
Haven't done this for a while but markets have done what they should while I was away, if a bit pessimistic... The daily movements: FTSE +0.3% DAX +0.6%, S&P & DOW +0.1% as central banks expected to have success in what they're doing, and the US housing data was generally positive.
