 11/12/2009: A Little Help! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:57:30

This week we get some help from our good friends. Micah and Adam, from the mighty Juices of Fire, kick off the show with back-to-back mixes recorded live from The Beat Oracle nights at Hal & Al’s. Micah’s set navigates through instrumental hip-hop and ends with some chill dubstep. Adam takes over the second half of the first hour with an upbeat mix of danceable beats. The second hour finds Ruckus Roboticus in the pilot’s seat for a mix infused with latin jams. Thanks, guys! Playlist Download 11/12/2009

 11/05/2009: Listening By Numbers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:57:38

This week we continue to feature some great new releases. It’s a warm first hour, highlighted by new songs from Ariel Pink, Broadcast, Atlas Sound, Kaito, and Signer. Minimal tracks from 2562 and Shackleton bring the first half to a close, and the show evolves into new beats from Kelpe, Memory Tapes, Mochipet, Vitalic and Pictureplane. There are a lot of great sounds out there, and we hope you’re experiencing and enjoying what you can. Send any suggestions or feedback to dj@beatoracle.net Playlist Download 11/05/2009

Apologies for the late update! The studio has been ravaged by plague! Recovery was aided by piles of new releases. These were listened to and then set aside for broadcast, which you can hear below. Part One includes some fine new songs from the likes of The XX, Subeena, Darkstar, Bottin, and Matias Aguayo. Hour two showcases new work from Applescal, Kid Koala’s latest project “The Slew,” Antipop Consortium, and Floating Points. Enjoy your weekly dose of beats… Playlist Download 10/29/2009

 10/22/2009: Another live set… | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:58:30

Last week the Beat Oracle DJs made selections from mixing live at Hal & Al’s in September. Michael starts things with a house selection that had people dancing on tables and in front of the speakers. Kenny keeps it upbeat with a late-night selection from guest DJ Knackered’s electro hour. Knackered showed up late one night sporting a neon mask and tracks from DMX Krew, Swayzak, Terminal 11 and Galaxian. Joseph finishes the show with a late-night closing set full of old school classic hip-hop: Gang Starr, Pete Rock, Tribe, EPMD, De La Soul, and 2Pac’s first 12″ appearance. Lots of classics in this week’s sets showing our love for nostalgia as the summer ends… Playlist Download 10/22/2009

 10/15/2009: Changing Colors | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:55:46

Grey days have arrived, and a large amount of tea has cleared up the Oracle’s nagging cold. A variety of future music kept the studio warm while recuperating. Hour-one includes some experimental and vibrant new sounds from Washed Out, City Center, Boards of Canada, Circlesquare, and El Guincho. The second half of the show offers some dance lessons from Filippo Moscatello, and Few Nolder. A spectrum of hip-hop tracks from Speech Debelle, Raekwon, and Mike Slott finishes things off. Thanks for listening! Playlist Download 10/15/2009

 10/08/2009: Second Pressings and Guessings | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:55:36

Here is the most recent edition of the Oracle program. The pattern of sound fluctuates between various levels of “bump bump” and “beep beep.” It was raining outside and the dogs were barking. It’s unknown what specific effect, if any, these elements had on the recording, or whether we were in fact, fit for operating electronic devices. Newly released evidence will prove that the brilliance of Neil Landstrumm, Shed, Kode 9, Skanfrom, Ellen Allien, Massive Attack and Broadcast, were able to splendidly fill in this Limbaugh-sized gap in wit. Stay tuned for big news. Playlist Download 10/08/2009

 10/1/2009: Black Rock Evolution | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:54:12

This week Solar Flare dedicates a flaming solo set to friends made and fun experienced at Burning Man this year. I was long overdue for a trip to Black Rock City and I only realized it once I reached the playa. For one magic week I was immersed in a place I had only glimpsed in dreams and visions years ago. There was stunning art all over, friendly people playing and connecting on deep levels, and amazing sounds. Being a creature of music I will let my selections tell the story of my first Burn. The synchronicities, bike rides, alien landing and all-night raving you’ll have to ask me about next year, if you’ll join me there. (I don’t want to miss this neon-lit planetary/cosmic event ever again!) For now, pull on your goggles and dust mask-here comes a whiteout. Playlist Download 10/1/2009

 09/24/2009: Aural Buffet | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:54:43

We were back in the Sells studio this week, welcoming the fall with a fresh crop of future music. All of our records fell into a blender and this came out. Nutritional Content: new tracks from Mayer Hawthorne, Dam Funk, Atlas Sound, Lusine, the Orb, Joy Orbison, and more. Serving Instruction: pour into stereo or portable listening device, and press play. It is recommended to keep the volume high for disturbing/educating neighbors. Music has the right (Equal opportunity beats for all). Avoid eating the show. Playlist Download 09/24/2009

 09/17/2009: Live in August | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:57:23

This week we review our live sets from last month at Hal & Al’s. Joseph starts the show a selection filled with forward-thinking SoCal producers including Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Nobody/Blank Blue, Madlib and a couple cuts from Dublab’s excellent Echo Expansion compilation. Michael turns things darker with a selection of brand new dubstep and breaks including new stuff from Dub Terror, Subscape, Caspa and Luke Vibert. Kenny’s selection runs the gamut from experimental dance (Moderat, Salva remixing Nalepa) to ambient grooves (Mount Kimbie, Nosaj Thing) and finishes with a classic Aphex Twin selection. Be sure to come by after 10pm tonight as all three DJs tag-team together for the first time this month! Playlist Download 09/17/2009

 09/10/2009: Requiem for NGC1999 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:58:30

This week, the Beat Oracle presents a special three-hour edition from our “Slowly” series. It is a follow-up to a similarly themed 2008 mix. It is a collage of hushed, sometimes drowsy sounds. For this reason, the duration of the show will be uninterrupted by voice. For a satisfactory listening experience we recommend finding a comfortable pair of headphones or a nice nice hifi, and a quiet place. Playlist Download Requiem for NGC1999

 09/03/2009: Long Weekend | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:58:00

There was an easy air blowing about the studio, leading to this week’s episode. Open a few and sit back as the Oracle drops new tunes from Luke Vibert, Clouds, Rustie, Little Dragon, Tyondai Braxton, and Robin Guthrie. Feel free to contact us at dj@beatoracle.net for any recommendations, requests, or general words of wisdom. Stay tuned for an absolute epic next week… Playlist Download 09/03/2009

 08/27/2009: Inputs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:57:03

New releases continue to overrun the studio, loading this week’s show with a ton of fresh material. It’s a cohesive, yet diverse set, with stellar new tracks from Flying Lotus, Omar-S, Applescal, Ital Tek, SND, and Calvin Harris. Along the way you’ll also hear Four Tet remixing Anti-Pop Consortium, selections from Kompakt’s “Total 10” compilation, and yet another release from the prolific, living-dead beats of Zomby. Plug in for some futuristic beats! Playlist Download 08/27/2009

 08/20/2009: Digital Summer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:56:02

We spent most of the week sorting through a pile of new releases that arrived at our doorstep. Your ears should be pleased with what made the cut. New hip-hop from the likes of Ghostface Killah & DOOM, the Blue Scholars, and Juice Aleem get things started. The second half moves along with top-shelf electronic tracks from Wisp, Remano Eszildn, Zomby, Floating Points, and Daedulus. Next, a mini-Italo set features a trio of brand new releases from label Italians Do It Better, and a premiere of a new Sally Shapiro song. We wrap things up with summertime favorites Neon Indian and YACHT. Enjoy! Playlist Download 08/20/2009

 08/13/2009: Live Last Month | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:58:02

This week kicks off a monthly review of our live recording archive from Hal & Al’s. Here, we dig into the July 2009 vault. The show starts with pop selections from Kenny including great tracks from The The, Emilie Simon, and Cicada. Next Joseph moves deeper in the mix with hip-hop and dubstep from Flying Lotus, Ras G, and Pinch. My selection of ambient and experimental songwriting finishes the show with new stuff from DJ Food, Deradoorian and Bibio. Lots of other tracks are included, so check it out and then come down to Hal & Al’s on Friday nights if you can make it. If not, this series of monthly live recordings can be the next best thing.  08/06/2009: Space is the place. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:56:03

We packed up the Oracle Industries van and moved into our new “Steady Flux” studio. There’s way more space for our records and assorted machines. This week’s show is almost entirely comprised of new releases from the likes of The Gaslamp Killer, Darkstar, Jega, Greyboy, J Dilla, Appleblim and Ramadanman, Silkie, 2562, Martyn, and more. These are some major sounds. Playlist Download 08/06/2009
