Winter Weather in Hawaii | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:05

Our main topic today is on winter (what?) in Hawaii and the highlights of vacationing to the islands during this time of year. If you're fond of nature and want the experience of a lifetime, we recommend booking a whale watching tour while visiting Hawaii, since it is touted as one of the best places to witness these amazing creatures. We'll give you some background on the whales plus some interesting factoids that will surely have you looking into the next available whale watching tour. We'll also tell you what makes Big Island unique in the wintertime, and it has everything to do with the slushy white powder you might just be trying to escape from on the mainland. And don't forget what else winter brings in Hawaii; big wave season on the north shore. If you're a fan of surfing then you'll love hearing about the excitement that ensues on Oahu's 7-mile miracle every winter. Hawaii Five-0 fans will like this news story a lot- Liliha Bakery is opening up a second shop, right near the Honolulu International Airport. Famous for their coco puffs, Liliha Bakery has made two debuts on the hit television series ‘Hawaii Five-0’ and created a buzz for themselves. Find out the location of their new location on today's show! Also, we've got a couple items on Hawaiian Airlines, both good news. First we'll tell you how the airline ranked #1 again in performance and next we'll give the details on the newest nonstop services. If you're thinking about a summer vacation in Hawaii then you'll definitely want to tune in for this! Ko Olina has recently finished renovations to both the Aulani Disney Resort and JW Marriot Ihilani. Attempting to fine tune what their guests are looking for, both resorts have completed multi-million dollar overhauls that will hopefully entice visitors to the western lands of sunshine and serenity, as opposed to the bustling and busy southern counterpart known as Waikiki. And for those of you traveling to outer islands, we've got a few events coming up this November for you to check out. Things like Restaurant Week, the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, Friday Art Night and Historic Walking Tours are on the agenda and should be penciled onto yours too!

Molokai and Lanai Must Dos | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:10

Today's podcast we have some interesting news for all you Hawaii enthusiast listeners out there. Beginning with some brief comments on the weather here in Hawaii I must admit that while mainlanders are excited about the autumn weather, we're still enjoying steady 80-degree weather. It's funny, I feel like the Starbucks menus are the real indicators of a season change. It's not the cooler weather or increase in allergies, it's the drinks at Starbucks! While the menus seem to change with all four traditional seasons, Hawaii only has two throughout the year, but we still get to pretend like we see four. So yes, Pumpkin Spice Lattes are on the menu here in Hawaii too, and although we sweat when drinking it hot, we still love them. Our main topic today is unfortunately not on Starbucks. It's on something better! Lanai and Molokai, the two lesser-known islands off the coast of Maui. While they are the least visited of the islands in Hawaii (that are publicly accessible), Lanai and Molokai both offer an incredible experience that is hard to match elsewhere. So today we're giving you our top picks for the must-do's of Lanai and Molokai, should you ever decide to travel there. And I highly recommend you do! Both islands offer seclusion and solitude that so many seek while vacationing in Hawaii. Uncrowded beaches, quaint towns and no stop lights- now doesn't that sound appealing? For those looking to really ‘get away from it all’ Lanai and/or Molokai are the ideal destinations!

Hawaii Group Travel | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:22

A getaway to Hawaii isn't always just for a honeymoon, family vacation or special occasion, it can also be a place for business, meetings or corporate events. In this instance, we like to think Hawaii is the premiere location for group travel, not only because it provides companies with meeting space opportunities and group strengthening activities, but also because we can offer suck great rates on this type of travel. Hawaii Aloha specializes in planning successful and unforgettable group trips to all of the Hawaiian Islands. Because planning a group trip can be time-consuming and stressful, Hawaii Aloha offers specialty and personal services in this precise area of travel. We make the planning easy! And the best part of booking your group trip through us is we can get the best prices on airfare, accommodations and activities for your group- not to mention we beat the competition. There is a flip side to group travel however. Is booking a vacation as a ‘group trip’ always the best way to save money? Not necessarily. Traveling in a group of 20+ people will often times grant you the most discounts and amenities. However, group airfare is still recommended for 15+ people. But if the number of travelers drops below 12, we don't suggest booking airfare together. Unfortunately there is no price advantage with a group of less than 12 people. So as a rule of thumb, for group travel bookings, the more the merrier and the more you save! From choosing your island destination to finding the best hotel rates to booking the most successful group activities, Hawaii Aloha Travel can provide nearly everything that's involved in your group travel trip. Does a team building canoe ride sound like a good way to introduce coworkers to one another? Or how about a private luau to impress clients? We can also book meeting and convention space at resorts for an impressive impression. Whatever your group travel purpose is, we can plan it successfully! Also, if you're stumped on which island to visit for your trip, let us give you these recommendations. Oahu is our first choice and Maui is our second. Oahu has more restaurants, activities, hotels and accommodations and meeting spaces than any other island, and it tends to be more cost effective. Hawaii's largest city and the capitol are located on Oahu and is a well-known area for visitors to have daytime and nighttime fun. Maui provides similar amenities but with less options, only because Honolulu (on Oahu) is the business hub of Hawaii. Maui is equal in beauty and high-end resorts however, so it really is a choice based on preference. To get you started on your group travel, here are a few more rules-of-thumb to follow: Create a budget: Anyone participating in this group travel needs to know the financial expectations. Unless of course, the boss plans on expensing the entire trip! But it's a good idea to know what the budget is for the trip and the members included, so you have a starting point for things like where to stay, how long the trip will last and what type of activities will be part of the vacation. If you're on a tighter budget, you might want to consider saving on a resort so you can maximize team building activities. Or vice versa. Especially if meeting space is more important than activities. Food is also another aspect to plan for during the detail hammering of a group trip. It's something that tends to get overlooked, but often times costs the most money. Book in advance: We recommend booking at least one year in advance. Which means the planning needs to happen even earlier. Booking airfare and accommodations ahead of time is the best way to save money on group travel. Most airlines and hotels require a small deposit for group travelers, refundable up to a certain point. Planning well in advance makes it easier not only for you, but also for your travel company, airline, hotel and activity management as well. Appoint a leader:

My Must Do Suggestions for Hilo, Hawaii | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:12

Our main topic of the day is about Hilo, Big Island's largest town and Hawaii's second largest town. Most people only know one thing about Hilo, and that is that it's a gateway to get to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. But there is so much more to this verdant Hawaii-style community! Get the highlights of Hilo on today's podcast and find out why it may be your next (and favorite) Hawaii vacation destination. The topic that seems hot on everyone's list is the recent shut down of the Government, and how it's affecting people's lives across the nation. Yes, Hawaii is feeling it too with the recent closures of state parks like the USS Arizona Memorial of Pearl Harbor on Oahu, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island, Haleakala National Park on Maui and Kalaupapa National Historical Park on Molokai, among many others. We'll dive further into this topic in today's podcast plus other Hawaii news such as Aloha Plate winning Food Network's The Great Food Truck Race! This was big news for us (not to overshadow the seriousness of the government shut down, but really, who wants to dwell on the negative?) since our very own Lanai Tabura was one of three Hawaii members who traveled across the country to compete with the nation's best up-and-coming food trucks. Hear more about this exciting topic on today's show, plus have you heard about the relocation of Ala Moana Farmer's Market all you Oahu market fans out there? Due to the renovations happening at Ala Moana shopping center, the Saturday weekly market has moved to Ward Warehouse. But you'll have to tune in to this podcast to learn more about the details. We'll also tell you about the new eco-tour hitting the Big Island, where guests can plant their own koa tree and help give back to the aina. And that new resort property slotted for Kauai? The Coconut Beach Resort that's allocated to ocean front property on the east side? Yeah, it's on the market. Unfortunately the price for this property is undisclosed, but you'll find out a little bit more about this new development, which will most likely sprout up on the Garden Isle in the near future.
