The Roadhouse

We kick off the 13th holiday season in The Roadhouse with a mix of Christmas blues and new music. The Original Blues Brothers Band, Shaun Murphy, Kim Wilson, Downchild Blues Band, and Wee Willie Walker and the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra fill the hour. In a word, the hour is festive. Holiday blues and new tracks clearly make for another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 665th Roadhouse.

The Thanksgiving weekend brings a Roadhouse Rewind. I’ll be back with a new hour next week. The variety of blues in this edition of The Roadhouse is like looking into a big valley of blues in all its hues and shades. Matt Woods & The Thunderbolts, Gary Clark, Jr, Guy Tortora, Heritage Blues Orchestra, and Samuel James help create the hour. It’s a big mix, and definitely a mix that makes for another hour of the finest blues you’ve never heard – the 404th Roadhouse.

It's late in the year but the lineup of great new blues just doesn't stop. Madtown Mannish Boys, Doug MacLeod & Denny McCroy, Likho Duo, The Blues Reincarnation Project, and Benny Turner are all ahead in the hour. You know, I do love all kinds of music, but five days out from Thanksgiving in the US, I'm feeling especially thankful to be able deliver the genre we all love, in the form of another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 653rd Roadhouse.

Never let it be said that you don't get the newest and freshest blues in The Roadhouse. Of the fifteen tracks in this edition, twelve are from 2017. Chris Daniels and the Kings with Freddi Gowdy, Corey Dennison Band, Chris Thomas King, Jimmie Vaughan Trio, and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings bring brand new blues to the hour - proving once and for all that we really are all about another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.

This hour of The Roadhouse backs off just a little from the normal up-tempo mode of the show while projecting a different kind of energy. Elvin Bishop, Samantha Fish, John Blues Boyd, Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters, and Tweed Funk fill the hour. In the big picture, it's a bit of a down-shift from the normal, but no less an hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 661st Roadhouse.

After a few days with a bad cold, I think I found the best distraction - an hour of great blues. It's also an hour with a full compliment of female voices. Lucky Peterson, Lucinda Williams, Shaun Murphy, Duke Robillard, and Laura Rain and the Caesars are all ahead. An hour of new music, an hour of female artists, and, of course, another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 660th Roadhouse.

I've got a young show in this edition, featuring quite a few artists who are under 40. That helps to provide a very contemporary feel. Erin Harpe & The Delta Swingers, B.B. & The Blues Shacks, Hamilton Loomis, King King, and Larkin Poe propel us through the hour. It's an hour of new young blues and definitely another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 659th Roadhouse.

There's another hour ahead with huge variety, include sets of gospel blues and Texas blues. Arthur Adams, Bessie Jones, Freddie King, Fathead, and Danielle Nicole may not seem to have too much in common, but they do. The seasons roll on in the 13th year of The Roadhouse and so do the great blues releases. I have three debuts in this hour - including one that might be a surprise and one that I was turned on to by another great blues show. Lucky Peterson, Sherman Holmes Project, Watermelon Slim, Walter Trout, and Lizz Wright fill the hour. As summer turns to fall, we turn to another great hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 657th Roadhouse.

I'll get your feet pounding the floor to start this edition and keep the tempo going throughout. I've also got a set that puts the rhythm in our little blues show - a set of deep R&B tracks. Andy Santana & The West Coast Playboys, James Hunter Six, Chickenbone Slim, Jai Malano, and Annika Chambers will make this an hour to remember. For certain, it's another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 656th Roadhouse.

I don't really have a frame to put around this edition, but I'll say that there's a nice variety of instruments and voices, styles and tempos. Benny Turner, Mavis Staples & Bonnie Raitt, Savoy Brown, Ali Handal, and Joshua Jacobson help to fill out the hour. It's almost all new music, too, so, as you might guess - it's another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 655th Roadhouse.

As the weather starts to change in The Roadhouse, the new releases roll in. Arthur Adams, Mindi Abair & The Boneshakers, Mighty Mo Rogers & Baba Sissoko, Mitch Woods, and Jack Tempchin - all provide brand new music in this hour. The fact that its all so new supports case that the hour ahead is another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 654th Roadhouse.

It's all about the roots in this hour of The Roahdouse. They hold up the blues and provide a foundation for other musical genres, as well. Wee Willie Walker & The Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra, Lara Hope & The Ark-Tones, Pillie Bolling, Bull City Red, and Dani Wilde help lead you through the hour. About half the hour is focused on roots from one tree or another, but it's certainly another full hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 653rd Roadhouse.

I've got a full hour of fresh blues, including 11 tracks from 2017. Blind Boys of Alabama, Walter Trout, North Mississippi Allstars, Gregg Allman, and Catfish Keith provide a little gospel blues, some blues rock, and some acoustic blues. As we roll into the Labor Day weekend in the US, these artists really show that their efforts are a labor of love. It's another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 652nd Roadhouse.

I don't have any doubt that there's a strong hour straight ahead in The Roadhouse. Omar & The Howlers, Milligan Vaughan Project, Johnny Mastro & Mama's Boys, Bettye LaVette, and Sherman Holmes - every last one of them the consummate blues musician, all in their own style.
