Librivox: Chamber Music by Joyce, James

Librivox: Chamber Music by Joyce, James

Chamber Music is a collection of poems by James Joyce, first published in May of 1907. The collection originally comprised thirty-four love poems, but two further poems were added before publication ("All day I hear the noise of waters" and "I hear an army charging upon the land"). Although the poems did not sell well, they received some critical acclaim. Ezra Pound admired the "delicate temperament" of these early poems, while Yeats described "I hear an army charging upon the land" as "a technical and emotional masterpiece". In 1909, Joyce wrote to his wife, "When I wrote [Chamber Music], I was a lonely boy, walking about by myself at night and thinking that one day a girl would love me." Tourcaster - San Francisco City Guide

Tourcaster - San Francisco City Guide

Standing on a hilly peninsula in northern California, San Francisco defies the conventional model of most major cities. For one thing, it's not a big city at all, at least not in terms of size. About 800,000 people reside in only 49 square miles, sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay. Contributing to the unique feel of the city are her breathtaking hills, which rise up to dizzying heights and reward you with stunning views of the city and the water below. If the hills and the bay are the face of San Francisco, then its heartbeat is the vast diversity, both ethnic and cultural, that enriches the feel and flavor of the city. Listen to this audio guide to get an overview of the city and helpful tips for when you get to visit the "city by the bay".

The Emperor's Edge (a high fantasy novel in an era of steam)

Imperial law enforcer Amaranthe Lokdon is good at her job: she can deter thieves and pacify thugs, if not with a blade, then by toppling an eight-foot pile of coffee canisters onto their heads. But when ravaged bodies show up on the waterfront, an arson covers up human sacrifices, and a powerful business coalition plots to kill the emperor, she feels a tad overwhelmed. Worse, Sicarius, the empire's most notorious assassin, is in town. He's tied in with the chaos somehow, but Amaranthe would be a fool to cross his path. Unfortunately, her superiors order her to hunt him down. Either they have an unprecedented belief in her skills... or someone wants her dead. Produced by DarkFire Productions and narrated by Starla Huchton.
