Summary: Dr. Estelle Gauda , Professor of Pediatrics and Dr. Tamorah Lewis, a fellow at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore will present patient case scenarios which will: describe the different assessment tools used to determine whether pharmacological intervention is needed for an infant with prior prenatal exposure to opioids; discuss the effectiveness of buprenorphine and methadone for treating opioid addiction in pregnant women and the effect of these agents on the frequency and severity of neonatal abstinence syndrome in their infants; discuss the risk of sudden infant death syndrome in infants with prenatal exposure to opioids
