Haiti earthquake: three years on

Christian Aid Global show

Summary: On 12 January 2010 at 16:53 local time, an earthquake struck Haiti of a magnitude not felt in more than 200 years. Measuring 7 on the Richter scale, the epicentre of the earthquake was just 10 miles from the capital city, Port-au-Prince. Combined with the shallow depth of the quake, just 5 miles below the surface, this natural disaster had an extreme and devastating effect on the country. More than 220,000 people died and many more were left homeless after building collapsed. Paula Plaza, Communications Officer with Christian Aid, visited Haiti shortly after the earthquake. In this podcast, Paula reflects on the impact of the disaster and speaks to Prospery Raymond, Christian Aid’s Haiti Country Manager, about what has been achieved in the three years since the earthquake struck.
