5lspecials: LifeCycle - cycling safety special

5 live Sport Specials show

Summary: Eleanor Oldroyd is joined by James Cracknell and Kaya Burgess the Times journalist responsible for starting a national campaign in the newspaper called "Cities Fit for Cycling", for this cycling safety special - LifeCycle. Other guests also include Chris Boardman, Sir Chris Hoy and Martin Gibbs - head of cycling safety policy for British Cycling. Cycling has never had a higher profile in the UK - Bradley Wiggins, Chris Hoy, Laura Trott and Sarah Storey are national heroes, and 40 per cent of people in this country own a bicycle. But last year, more than 3 thousand people were killed or seriously injured on our roads. In this programme you can hear from those who've experienced first hand the dangers of taking to two wheels - and from a doctor who treats on a regular basis the victims of bike collisions. You can also hear from those in government who have the power to make policy.
